'Alphas': Get the lowdown on Syfy's new series
You've seen shows about teams of superheroes before, and you've seen shows about seemingly ordinary people who can do amazing things.
But you may not have seen a show about a team of people who can do amazing things, but also has to share a drab office suite and take a minivan to the scene of their latest case. That's what you'll get with "Alphas," Syfy's new series about five regular/extraordinary people recruited for their brain-stretching capabilities.
As you can see in the extensive preview above -- which is first on Zap2it -- "Alphas" tweaks the superhero genre a little by giving its characters at least semi-plausible abilities and forcing them to deal with the more mundane aspects of working for a super-secret part of the Defense Department. It's a novel approach, aided in no small part by the presence of David Strathairn as Dr. Lee Rosen, an expert in "alpha" phenomena who both gives the team its assignments and tries to protect them and help them harness their abilities.
The series also stars Malik Yoba, Laura Mennell, Ryan Cartwright, Azita Ghanizada and Warren Christie. Zak Penn and Michael Karnow created it.
"Alphas" premieres at 10 p.m. ET July 11. Will you be watching?

I'm looking forward to it. Syfy has done a great job with Eureka and Haven, so I'll definitely be giving it a chance.
Hopefully its another hit like haven sanctuary warehouse 13 now ur they would pick up the 4400 ill be a happy man
It looks like its going to be amazing! Syfy ROCKS!
I was not thrilled with the Alphas TV show, quite mediocre and boring. I thought the cast of characters did not blend well and they were annoying. The tv shows like Heroes, Santuary, Warehouse 13, Leverage, Fringe, Torchwood and others are superior in imagination, character casting and writing. I would rather see the new tv show Three Inches, there cast sounds like an excellent match. I also would like for the three Inches show to be the originally planned 1 hour show. I read it would be reduced to a 1/2 hour show, which is a big mistake. Haven't heard when the Three Inches tv show will be viewed. Maybe they should bring back Joss Whedon to write new tv shows. There's a talented guy who has imagination and originality.
I try to give as many new shows a try, as a DISH Network subscriber and employee it’s important to stay up to date and I’ve been really enjoying Alphas. I have to say though I’m glad I upgraded to HD for this one, I don’t think I would enjoy this show nearly as much in standard def, the added clarity really matters for a show where every detail of the craft is so important. Anyone who hasn’t already made the jump I would certainly recommend doing so and with the price of HD tv’s getting very reasonable and DISH offering HD free for life for qualifying customers on all of their America’s Top Packages now is a great time.
I absolutely love Alphas. I did not love Heroes, and I certainly am not some comic loving nerd that watched Dr Who, Torchwood or Sanctuary. those shows have always bored me silly. This is a lot more like the 4400, Supernatural or even Tower Prep. It has wonderful, real characters, a great approach to how society would react to such individuals. And no silly gimmik. just a lot of heart and great acting. I hope this show stays around for a long time.
