Tyra Banks promises no more 'normal' seasons of 'Top Model'

tyra-banks-cw-upfront.jpgNews and notes from upfront week, including items from Adult Swim, Univision and more ...

- Tyra Banks took the stage at The CW's upfront Thursday to tease the upcoming all-star cycle of "America's Next Top Model," and also to proclaim that there would be no more "normal" seasons of the show. She didn't elaborate, and CW executives weren't completely sure what she meant, but they guessed you'll see more stunts like the all-stars and the all-shorties cycle from last season. Memo to Tyra: It's about time for an all-plus-size season, is it not?

- Adult Swim has added a handful of new shows to its lineup for the coming year. We're most curious to see "NTSF: SD: SUV," a parody of cop shows created by Paul Scheer that premieres this summer; and "The Heart, She Holler," a live-action soap about a town "so inbred, the folks have become almost supernaturally wrong. Patton Oswalt stars. There's also a "Venture Bros." "documentary" special on tap for July 24.

- Leading Spanish-language broadcaster Univision (which, by the way, regularly outdraws The CW in the ratings) is launching a take on "The Biggest Loser" early next year. "Si Se Puede" ("It's Possible") comes from "Biggest Loser" co-creator Dave Broome and producer Emilio Estefan and will feature a team of trainers and nutritionists helping several Latino families shed pounds and start leading healthier lives.

- In addition to the pickup of "The Closer" spinoff "Major Crimes," TNT also announced at its upfront that it will launch a series of mystery movies based on best-selling books (both fiction and true crime). The "TNT Tuesday Night Mystery" slate is scheduled to launch in November and includes adaptations of Scott Turow's "Innocent" and Richard North Patterson's "Silent Witness."

I would really like to see a plus size edition of ANTM. I really would. Maybe an all male version as well. That could be interesting. Maybe both male and female competing. They need to do something to spice the show up. It's gotten so boring. I am looking forward to the all star edition though. Crazy Liza from cycle 5 is what's making me watch lol.

Also, just to clarify, it often outdraws NBC in ratings as well...

Wishful thinking on my part, but on my first read of the headline, I dropped the word "normal." If only Tyra Banks promised no more seasons of 'Top Model'.

@Tyra: how about an all-male version?

Yes, Tyra show is becoming boring and I don't watch all the time. When I do it's always some whinning skinny girls. Mix it up a little, some male models, some normal size models, period. Bet
a 5'7", 34-24-34 120lbs are hard to find.

There was a show similar with male models a few years ago and it tanked. Watching guys act like the women from ANTM became extremely annoying very quickly.

When will she promise there will be no more seasons of top model?

Overkill! It lasted so long past their expiry date it actually developed a smell!

Yuck!

What's up with Tyra having a mustache in the picture?

LOvE TyrA bAnkS! ^^
