'The Voice': With blind auditions over, it's time to get really cutthroat!
The warm fuzzies may be over now. In Round 2 of "The Voice" blind auditions, the coaches finalized their eight-person teams after a slight hiccup in the auditions that forced them to give some performers a second chance. The teams will now prepare themselves for the battle rounds.
After the phenomenal premiere episode, the competition came back this week with weaker singers overall, but the momentum of the premiere episode may get it over that hump. From the action on Twitter, viewers still seem very engaged with the show. And we have to say that we'll never tire of Blake Shelton making fun of Cee Lo Green's fashion sense.
The big test now? The show rode its unique blind audition process to a successful debut. But now that that's over, will it become just like every other talent competition on TV?
Well, it looks like NBC still has some tricks up its sleeve. The next phase of the competition forces the coaches to whittle their teams down in a series of one-on-one battles. The previews for this phase both scare us and pique our interest.
We have to say that having two singers sing the same song at the same time doesn't sound very good. We're not talking about the idea of it, we mean the actual sound of the performers singing over each other didn't sound pleasant in the previews. Of course, there's something to be said for the sheer competition of it all and we're looking forward to seeing just how the on-stage wars go down and how many awkward moments are created when the coaches have to cut one of the singers they just worked so hard to bring over to their team.
And in case our attention begins to waver, the coaches bring in the celebrity equivalent of teacher's aides with country legend Reba McEntire joining Shelton, pop singer Sia joining Christina Aguilera, R&B singer Monica joining Green, and producer Adam Blackstone giving a helping hand to Adam Levine.
So, are you still with "The Voice," Zappers? And which coach are you putting your money on?
