'The Voice': What was Cee Lo thinking with that pairing?

the-voice-nakia-vs-tje-austin.jpg
The competition didn't let up in Round 2 of the battle rounds as "The Voice" kept its momentum from last week, though there was one pairing that will haunt us forever (or at least a few days, give or take).

The song selection in Round 2 was a bit suspect with the coaches trying to convince us that their choices were all about classic, simple songs that would highlight the performers' voices. We think those choices screamed budgetary concerns more than anything, but we aren't multiple-platinum selling artists like those coaches.

Despite the questionable song choices, the performers really worked hard to show their personality and range. And let's face it, the talent in these early rounds of "The Voice" makes "American Idol's" Top 24 look like the auditions for a high school musical.

Here are the Round 2 battle results:

Team Cee Lo Green: Nakia beats Tje Austin
Team Blake Shelton: Jared Blake beats Elenowen (Josh and Nicole Johnson)
Team Adam Levine: Javier Colon beats Angela Wolf
Team Christina Aguilera: Beverly McClellan beats Justin Grennan

We agree with all the choices made this week (as opposed to last week), but there was one pairing that we wish never had to go down. Cee Lo, how could you pit Nakia against Tje? They both have great voices for different reasons and we originally saw both of them moving on to the live rounds and being very competitive. We'll just have to trust that Cee Lo knew what he was doing and that he has enough talent left on his team to keep himself competitive going into the live rounds.

Did you agree with the choices this week? And don't you wish that Cee Lo pitted a different pair against each other?

Duh...it's a competition. His pairing was spot on. If he had selected 2 performers with one being much more talented than the other...what's the point of that? The idea is to weed it down to a final grouping to find a winner. What should have been more of a concern to you was how weak Blake Shelton's pairing was...2 horribly untalented acts...they should have never been chosen since neither had a chance of winning.

In my opinion this show has better singers on it than "American Idol" does this season by far. "Idol" is a snooze-fest this year, only real good thing about it is Steven Tyler. What little interest I had in it was gone after Pia was let go. I've been watching my regular CBS shows instead. This is a first for me, normally an avid "Idol" person. Hopefully next year "Idol" has better and more interesting people... at least they FINALLY got rid of James Durbin.

I'm cheering for Patrick on "The Voice". He's my choice to win it so far.

I think this show is losing its "Voice"

I am so sad to see Elenowen go! I loved the blend of their voices and I could really see them doing something big in the future.

Okay Christina, bad choice!! Yes Beverly is a great singer but she is a one note performer. Justin did a much better job holding his own against Beverly and should have been the one to continue.

Well...of course. Contestants on The Voice seem to have much more experience before coming to the show. Some of these people have several (bad) albums out there already. They should be better than your average Idol contestant is. Frankly, I think they should be better than what I've seen/heard so far.

I guess it's natural to compare the shows, but they're coming from different places. The dig at Idol isn't really needed. It comes off a little...cheap, to be honest.

@Jeffster- ITA that Christina was wrong. I didn't even really hear Beverly singing. Didn't really like her, either.

im hoping the judges will get an oppy to bring back contestants. my favs were elenowen and tje.

I felt like most of the pairings last night were "the favorite" against "the expendable," and that's sad. I thought Tje and Nokia both did well, but Tje had a much better voice (and I thought that's what this show was about) though Nokia had a much better performance.

I also thought Justin way outsang Beverly. I didn't actually hear much that I would call singing from her, and I really dislike her attitude. It did scream "cocky" even though she said she was trying to come across as confident rather than cocky.

But I'm glad Javier was safe -- he's my favorite so far and they were right on to tell him to hold back on the runs a little bit.

I thought all the pairing were good. However I don't like it when there are duos in as one pair. That shouldn't be

The unfortunate pairing of Tje and Nakia is almost beside the point ... I will be stunned if anyone other than Javier Colon wins this thing. If the show is truly about "the voice", then he is the clear and obvious choice.
