'The Vampire Diaries': Nina Dobrev talks dresses, D.C. and Season 3

nina-thumb.jpgHappy Cinco De Sacrifice, "Vampire Diaries" fans!

Yes, the event everyone -- vampires, werewolves, witches and humans -- has been waiting for almost all season is finally here. As Nina Dobrev simply told us after her appearance on KTLA on Thursday, May 5, "The sacrifice happens tonight. The sacrifice definitely happens."

Obviously, Dobrev couldn't say too much -- or anything, really -- about the aftermath of the sacrifice and whether or not Elena turns into a vampire in tonight's episode, "The Sun Also Rises." Something she could tell us? What she's most excited about for Season 3. Prepare to go old-school. Way. Old-school.

Last week, Zap2it attended a press Q&A with some of the cast and crew of "The Vampire Diaries," where executive producer Julie Plec teased that Season 3 will be "the year of the Originals." Dobrev tells us she's more than ready to sink her teeth (pun fully intended) into the Originals' story line.

"It's going to be really cool to see where it goes. I mean there's so many possibilities of where it could go. The storyline has opened up to so many different things now," she says. "That also means there's more flashbacks, which is fun. I love doing the flashbacks, being in a different world and a different era."

While Dobrev doesn't know for sure if we'll be meeting the original Petrova in season 3 --"We don't have any idea until we get the script" -- she is more than willing to add another "TVD" character to her resume.

"I'm very much a supporter of the story lines. If it makes sense and it's a good story and it keeps propelling the characters and their arcs, then I'm open for everything and anything."

One of her characters -- "evil slut vampire" Katherine -- has witnessed over 500 years worth of historical events and now it's Dobrev's turn. Last weekend, she attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C., and wore a stunning white dress with Old Hollywood waves in her hair. So how does one choose the dress they are going to wear to meet the president?

dobrev-whc.jpg"I had a couple of different options and I always wanted to wear Dolce & Gabbana. There's something about Dolce -- it's sophisticated and classy and that's what the White House Correspondents' Dinner is about," Dobrev explains. "It's about being sophisticated, classy and professional. It just fit kind of perfectly and I felt really good in it."

Nina was also in D.C. when President Obama announced the death of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. While she didn't join the celebration outside the White House Sunday night, she was actually there earlier in the day.

"I had literally just left the White House because I had spent all of Sunday biking around, kind of taking a day to myself and exploring and sightseeing. I had just just rented a bike and gone to the White House and just left. When I got back to the hotel, Obama spoke and made the announcement."

She continues, "A friend of mine actually has an alert on his cell phone -- a dead person alert -- so his cell phone told us. That's how we found out. We didn't think it was real and then they made the announcement. Twitter went crazy then we started making [Donald] Trump jokes."

To hear more from Dobrev, including her thoughts on Elena's big Anti-Bella Swan ("Twilight") moment in last week's episode, watch the video below.

Would you like to see Dobrev take on another character -- the original Petrova -- "TVD" fans? Sound off in the comments below. Don't miss "The Vampire Diaries" penultimate Season 2 episode tonight, May 5, at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.

i'd love to see that. :)

Nina is so gorgeous! Amazing woman. I'd love to meet her.

Yes, Nina is such a great actress. Tonight's episode was great. Glad the person that died was Jenna as she was really a nobody. OH and can u believe that the lady that plays Jenna, Sara Canning, is ONLY 23????!!!! WTF she looks like she is 33 and even 40! Sad about John as he was hot.

Everyone knows that Nina was Ian's date to the White House Correspondence Dinner and that the phone she is talking about is his. Good Grief! Why doesn't she just say Ian instead of hedging around like she does.

Nina is such a great actress and so very beautiful and talented she could totally pull it off playing three different characters. I would really like to see that.

I would really like to know how the curse came about and
A bit more about the original Petrova ... I assume something happened with her Elijah and Klaus to trigger the curse in the first place... Could be an interesting twist !

I'd LOVE to see Nina take on yet another character. She's an awesome actress!

does anybody notice that she says obama instead Binladin

As much as I would like to see this immensely talented young lady take on another role, I really hope she doesn't stress herself out. I mean, I can understand how much hard-work goes into playing two diametrically opposite roles, and now we are curious for a 3rd!? :D
