'Survivor: Redemption Island's' Steve Wright: Phillip is 'just freaking crazy'

survivor-steve-wright.jpgFormer NFL-er Steve Wright is the latest person voted out of "Survivor: Redemption Island." He tells Zap2it about his time on the show, including that Phillip really is just as nuts as he seems on TV.

You seemed just so physically wiped out by the end, why do you think it was so much harder on you?

"I don't know, let's see. I probably had 1000 calories over the month. Just a handful of rice a day, burning who knows how many calories just looking for crabs in the jungle. Not getting any sleep at night. Dealing with boneheads like Phillip. It's just one thing after another. The elements, everything just wears you down. I weigh 250 lbs, it takes 2500 a day just to maintain. So on 100 calories a day of rice, I'm losing like a pound a day."

Boston Rob seems to be running a tight ship. At this point in the game, who did you think might be able to make a move and get him out?

"They all do if they just pull together! Like I was trying to do. You gotta stick together and all it takes is a couple people to write the guy's name down. Anything was possible. But did any of them have the cojones to do it? I don't know."

Who were you hoping to see at the end once you were voted out?

"I was hoping for Matt, Mike. I'd love to see Mike pull the thing off. Matt, I've always had a big heart for him. It was tough enough being through it by ourselves, with the rest of the tribe around you, he's all alone. Not a lot of love lost between me and the old Ometepe tribe, I'd like to see Matt or Mike pull it off."

Tell us about Phillip. You particularly had quite a clash with him.

"You can only hide so much from the cameras. There's no humanly way possible, the best actor in the world couldn't carry that off 24/7. I was more irritated and shocked watching how stupid he was ... picking the maggots out of the rice and bringing it over and saying he's going to put it in our rice. It's like, 'Really, you think you're going to do that?' Let's talk about it, don't just come over and tell me you're going to do something. Plus you've been cutting us off from anything of yours. They wouldn't let us sit in their chairs, nothing. You are just freaking crazy. It was like gasoline on a bomb, I was shocked to see how he took it. I've gotten all kinds of really positive responses from my black teammates and a black brother-in-law that they knew there was just nothing meant by it. He has got a big chip on his shoulder. He lives in a weird world that I'm not familiar with."

Would you do anything differently if you could?

"The only thing I would do differently that I've thought about many times is when the writing was on the wall for us, and I told the girls we are going to be voting for Rob, I wish I would've just gone over to all of them, the girls, Grant, all of them, and just told them right there - Rob has got you guys under his spell and we're going to be voting for him tonight and if you don't want to be the second or third loser, coming with me would be a lot better chance. I might be easier to beat. But you're going down a no-win path. Just go in and there and blatantly stir it up a bit more. Just really cause a lot of questioning going on with them. It just started being monotonous, just picking the Zapateras off. I wish I would've stirred things up more. It would've made great television."

Any final thoughts/messages to your fans?

"Just, uh, quit complaining, don't bitch. Life's too short. Live for the moment. You can get by with less. That's what I took away from it. Stay in the moment with your friends and don't get caught up in your Blackberrys and texting. When you have a chance to connect with someone, connect with them. When life comes down to the bare minimum, that's what really matters. The friendships."

"Survivor: Redemption Island" airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

I dunno i just have a feeling he's crazy on purpose his sister reacted to him like he was acting normal

This show is so racist. Why was Philip crazy? Why did they say he didn't deserve respect? Phillip worked his *** off. Oh! right, he is suppose to work while those lazy white women constantly kissed Boston Rob's behind. That final tribal council vote was a joke. Rob did deserve the money because he played all thoose white folks for the idiots and ***** they exhibited the entire season.Phillip wasn't crazy. He was being real. He knew the role he had to play. I gather after twenty five days of constant bull he decided to call it as it was. Thanks survivor for allowing African Americans to view just how far we have to go to survive.

has phillip had any phyciatric evaluations. there apears to be something very wrong with him. maybe he snapped in reg. line of work. keep the net handy.
