'Smash' tries to reintroduce us to Katharine McPhee

Um, come again trailer for NBC's new midseason show "Smash"?

While Katharine McPhee wouldn't qualify as an unknown in our book, she apparently does in NBC's.

In the musical drama starring Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Angelica Huston and Megan Hilty (Who?), McPhee plays an Iowan who lands a successful audition and becomes the favorite for the role of Marilyn Monroe. So yes, her character is an unknown, but McPhee certainly isn't. Come on, she was voted No. 2 on FHM's 100 Sexiest Women in The World of 2007. Girl's been around.

Don't believe us? 1. You're living under a rock and 2. Let us count the ways we know McPhee:

No. 5: "The House Bunny"

McPhee played a pregnant sorority girl in the Anna Faris vehicle that grossed a respectable $68 million at the box office.

No. 4: "Community"

McPhee's appearance on the NBC comedy was intensely promoted by the network. McPhee guest-starred as Pierce's (Chevy Chase) ex-stepdaughter and Jeff's (Joel McHale) potential love interest.

No. 3: Music

McPhee's self-titled debut album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and the first single "Over It" was certified gold. In total, she's released three albums. 

No. 2: Neutrogena spokesmodel

McPhee joined the ranks of Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts, Vanessa Hudgens, Kristen Bell and more as a spokesmodel for the skincare company. None of those people are "unknowns" either.

No. 1: "American Idol"

She was the runner-up in Season 5 of the highest rated show on television. Yeah, you could say America knows her pretty well.

Are we taking crazy pills or is McPhee really worthy of "And Introducing" billing?

I got goosebumps from watching that promo. Midseason cannot come quick enough.

What an awesome trailer of 'Smash'! I totally cannot wait for this show to start--January better hurry up and get here! This trailer is a 5 minute movie of 'The Katharine McPhee Show'!

Not only is she to be admired and appreciated for a beautiful singing voice and talent who is true to herself, but her exhaustive worldwide work for people in need (especially children) makes her extra special in my book. A beautiful person inside and out...NBC did good.

I was surprised when the "introducing" popped on the screen. I don't even watch AI, but I know her from "House Bunny" and her music.

I'm so happy for Kat McPhee. I realy hope this show makes her the star she deserves to be. She's struggled for relevancy post AI, but she always had the talent. She just needed the right vehicle as her first album was all wrong for her. This trailer is fantastic. I can't wait to see the show.

As in the USNavy (or pick whichever Armed Forces one served): there's the right way, the wrong way, and the Navy's way, so it is when it comes to reality. There's real reality and TV (pick your media) reality.
For the world (TV world) to be 'introduced' Katherine McPhee, as fine on a number of levels she seems to be, we would have to either have just come out of coma or taken a whirl on some time-machine.
Katie McPhee was on TV for 4 (?) months, every blessed week, during her AI stint, let alone an episode here and there on some popular shows and a movie or two. IMDB shows her as receiving Actor credits for 9 items PRIOR to her introduction.
So the marketing folk for Smash are smoking some good stuff and think we're smoking it along with them.
Golly, one can't believe anything on tv anymore. Yuk-yuk-yuk-yuk
