Rob Mariano's 'Around the World in 80 Ways' starts production immediately
Despite filming months ago, "Boston" Rob Mariano just won the million dollar prize on "Survivor: Redemption Island" Sunday night (May 15). What's next for this reality TV star? Starting his own show on the History Channel. Immediately."I'm on a plane tonight going to Los Angeles and I start production in the morning on a new show that I'm doing," says Mariano. "It's called 'Around the World in 80 Ways,' it's adrenaline-style TV, which is perfect for me. I love adventure, so I'm excited to be working on something new and making the transition from reality show contestant to host."
"The basic premise of the show is me and a co-host are going to travel around the world, from point A to point B, but you can never repeat any of the forms of transportation," he continues. "If you use a commercial airline once, you can't use it again. You need to take a fighter jet or a blimp or a hot air balloon. Within that context, we're goign to try to use transportation that is indigenous to the area. If we're in the desert, we'll ride camels."
Unlike "Survivor," it's not a competition, per se - but in standard Boston Rob style, there may be some competitive parts to the show.
"At certain times my co-host and I will wager or race. It's not all set in stone, there are still things to be determined, but I'm looking forward to it, whatever we're going to be doing. The twists and turns," says Mariano.
"Around the World in 80 Ways" will premiere on the History Channel sometime later in 2011.

He'll fit right in with the inbred idiots on Swamp People. What the hell has happened to the History Channel?
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
This is great news!!! I'm a huge Boston Rob fan and glad we'll get more of him on television. I think he's a great television personality not to mention hot hot hot. Amber is one lucky lady. I look forward to the show.
Great. Another reality show jerk gets rewarded further. I guess all his crying about how much his family means to him is just another one of his lies, since he's always out galavanting away from them. I'm tired of bad examples of human behavior continuing to expand their 15 mins. of fame. Survivor is consistently guilty of this, letting villains like Rob & Russell on the show repeatedly. And America rewards Rob further by voting him another 100 grand over a good guy like Matt. Disgusting, Survivor viewers. A microcosm of what's wrong w/ America.
I'm thrilled...I've been a huge fan of his from the start and looking forward to his new show...should be great entertainment!
I am glad for Rob. Sure he is a family man and yes he is leaving to do another show but so what. He has to support his family. Yes they have won over 2 million dollars but that does not mean it will last forever. While he can do, let him do it. If you have a problem don't watch. Congrats to Rob for playing the game
Rob and Amber should have won The Amazing Race. They would have been so far ahead until the airline pulled the plane back to the gate for the second place couple. That was bizarre. I've always wondered how much CBS paid the airline to do that. I loved the way Rob was recognized around the world and used that to his advantage. Hope his new show is a success.
I think it's really great that Rob Mariano will be hosting a TV show-- something it seems he was born to do. It will be a better pay check for his talents. And I feel he is a great dad and lucky to have the opportunity to do something he'll obviously love so much. HE is lucky to only leave his family for one month out of the year and then get to be home, unlike my husband in the military, who is gone for 15 months at a time. I'm really impressed and delighted for the doors opened to him. I wish him and his family all the luck in the world. If the Irwins could do it, I'm sure they will do fine, too.
I can't wait to see Rob on this. way to go Rob
Congratulations to Rob - I know he'll be his usual entertaining self on the new show and make it a success. He totally deserved winning Survivor becasue he OUTPLAYED and OUTWITTED everyone -that's the name of the game people! He's been on the show so many times because he's such a fan favorite and plays the game better than anyone in it's history. Good luck Rob - I know I'll be watching.
