The question of what will happen to "The Closer" has officially been answered.

Turner Entertainment addressed the subject at its Upfront presentation for TNT and TBS, confirming that newly-minted "Closer" regular Mary McDonnell will headline spin-off "Major Crimes," starting summer 2012, after Kyra Sedgwick's run on the original comes to an end.

TNT, decidedly committed to not rocking the boat, is also developing six new cop series and a series from writer Mitch Album ("Tuesdays With Morrie") about a D.J. who tries to revive his hometown of Detroit... via the also struggling medium of radio.

Over at TBS, the network is developing an hour-long comedy about an Midwestern couple who decide to get married and a half-hour comedy about a man who starts dating again after his girlfriend cheats on him.

"The Wedding Band," a comedy starring Austin Green, Melora Hardin and Harold Perrineau, was also officially picked up.

You spelled Mitch Albom's name wrong.

I could barely watch when Mary McDonnell was on the screen in The Closer. Her character, manner of speech, and attitude were more than annoying. Would love to follow the rest of the cast, sadly without Kyra Sedgwick, but will have to pass if McDonnell is the replacement.

President Laura Roslin?! Count me in!

The Mary McDonnell spin-off pleases me. Had you asked a year ago, I would have had reservations because Captain Raydor seemed to lack any humanity, depth. Over the past season, the show runners have allowed her to develop as a human being and she's become a much more interesting character. Mary McDonnell is a tremendous actor. I think the franchise will be left in good hands, especially since the other Closer supporting characters are apparently continuing in their roles.

What IS with Mary McDonnell's speech? Sounds like she has a 'hare lip' or some sort of speech impediment. Difficult to watch her.
