Mark Burnett producing 2011 Emmys; network deal renewed

The Emmy Awards will stay on broadcast TV for most of the rest of this decade.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the big four networks -- ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC -- reached a new deal late Wednesday (May 4) that will keep the awards telecast on network TV through 2018. The 2011 awards will air Sept. 18 on FOX, with Mark Burnett ("Survivor," "The Celebrity Apprentice") serving as executive producer.

Burnett has produced a handful of awards shows in the past (notably the MTV Movie Awards and the People's Choice Awards), but this will be his first crack at the Emmys. "I know the excitement of standing on the Emmy stage before your peers and the American public to receive that statue," he says. "My mission in producing this year's Emmys is to provide the absolutely most memorable television experience for the nominees, the winners and the viewing audience."

The rotation of the awards among the big four nets will continue, with ABC following FOX in 2012, then CBS and NBC. The four networks are paying a combined $66 million for the rights to broadcast the Emmys over the next eight years.
