Lee DeWyze responds to 'American Idol' finale diss: 'I was not asked to be involved'
Watch out, Nigel Lythgoe. It's on.Earlier today, the "American Idol" executive producer made headlines after he tweeted that Season 9 winner Lee DeWyze refused to present the winner's trophy to Season 10 champ Scotty McCreery at the grand finale on Wednesday, May 26.
Now, DeWyze has taken to his personal Twitter to respond to Lythgoe's allegations that he snubbed "Idol" and McCreery.
DeWyze explained that he originally was not asked to be involved in the finale at all and was asked at the last minute to get on stage and present McCreery with the trophy, something he did not feel comfortable doing.
"I was not asked to be involved in the Finale. It wasn't until about 2 minutes before they announced that Nigel had approached me and asked if he could "borrow" me for a second," DeWyze tweeted. "I didnt feel a last second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty's moment."
He continued, "I appreciate American Idol, and the opportunity it has given me. And the people who have made that show possible. I am not angry, or bitter etc. It was an amazing Finale, and I would have loved to be a part of it. I just wasnt asked."
DeWyze also congratulated McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina, saying, "Awesome job. Well done Scotty!"

I'm not buying either story because none of us were there. It seems petty. I wouldn't point fingers at either man. They simply both seem bitter toward each other. Who cares. It happens in the business.
lee is trash, good for nigel to dump him, he would have look awakward next to the great JLO.
Nigel is an *** for pulling such a stun!
Highly disrespectful of them to not invite the previous winner back. Granted Lee career has failed but still it is polite to have the previous winner back the following year after their win, they have been doing for the past nine years!
I would have to say Lee is wrong. AI helped him and his dream so therefore anything asked that is so minor he should jump at the opportunity to give back to the people that helped him. especially since he's been in the contestant's shoes. It's not like AI asked him to put money down on Scotty's trophy. They were just asking him to present it to him. Selfishness doesn't go far. What harm is that?
Agree @ Kenny. Would it have killed them to squeeze a few minutes out of those bloated hours to give him? Seems really petty on the part of Nigel/AI.
Lee wins hands down. He is as classy as he is talented. His honesty is refreshing. His music has touched me since AI and his CD's do the same. I am waiting for more and was so disappointed that he didn't perform.
Love to Lee. The last minute arrangement was an uncalled for after thought. Probably made for this public backlash..."Oh I asked him to present." Lee should have performed on the finale of AI! We missed him alot!! Power to Lee Dewyze for being a gentleman and stand up guy! I will be listening to your CD!
I'm sad that Lee even had to dignify Nigel Lythgoe's middle school remarks. Clearly poor planning on the part of an egotistical megalomaniac who in the past several weeks has repeatedly insulted his viewer openly on Twitter and in the medial.
Lee who?? I mean how many people if not for these stories would have remembered he won last season...they even spoofed the "who won" last season on Kimmel a few months back. Like I said, Lee who?
There's always more to a story and I'm glad he was kind enough to say what actually happened. Such a class act. The previous winner never hands the trophy over anyway, it's all about the new champ. He did the right thing.
