'Fringe' Season 3 finale: Why does no one remember Peter?

fringe-season-3-finale.jpgThe "Fringe" Season 3 finale took us 15 years into the future. The year is 2026 and Locke is dead and Jack says we have to go back ... wait, no.

It's 2026 and the alternate world is destroyed. Walternate is trapped in our world and is exploding wormholes all over the place to destroy the world that destroyed his world bit by bit, including shooting Olivia in the head.

So Walter has to change Peter's consciousness of 2011 so he will make a different choice in the past and not destroy the alternate universe. It ... kind of works. The two universes merge. So, hello Fauxlivia. And Peter's son (we presume). But as Peter starts to explain how they need to work together, he blinks away. The Observers say he never existed and no one remembers him. Um ... what?

Where do you think Peter went? And we're getting him back, right? Right?!

(Mostly) Awesome Future Things
  • Ella is an agent!
  • Future Astrid is super hot.
  • Mad-Eye Broyles is a Senator.
  • Olivia has harnessed her telekinesis
  • The burial protocol is a flaming burial at sea, which is weird.
  • Peter calls Walter "dad" and  Walternate "father." Has he done that before, called Walter his dad? I feel like he hasn't. It made me sniffly.
  • Future Walternate with his white hair reminded me more than a little of Leland Palmer in "Twin Peaks."

What did you think? Good season finale?

I dunno.... maybe I'm too close to it. Was too emotional thinking Olivia was gone, then getting her back with the good trick, and now Peter didn't exist? Isn't that paradox? If there was no Peter there was no reason for Walter to cross. Therefore no breakdown between universes. I dunno... right now I'm feeling more wrung out than excited. Will need to give it more time to sink in before I decide if it was good or great...

I thought the episode was brilliant although I am also a little confused that peter did not exist, how the hell did fauxlivia's son come about, and olivia wouldnt hate fauxlivia if there was no peter. But it was awesome and my mind was blown, idk how they keep topping there previous finales but somehow they do, but i dont see this being topped next season.

It could not be better!
Peter is here with me, he is not lost!

I think I am too emotionally close to this show...after I got all calmed down about Olivia, they take away Peter? What???
I agree with above poster, without Peter there are too many paradoxes. Without Peter, there would be no Henry, so the machine wouldn't have turned on. Also, without Peter, there would be no need for Walter to cross over, thereby making holes in the universe, in the first place. The show doesn't make sense without Peter. I think JJ Abrams is messing with us yet again, by eliminating the most central character, making us wait a summer, and then explaining what he's really thinking. I don't know what will happen in Season 4, but I do know it will be physically painful to wait so long for it. Happy waiting!

Good finale and you know peter will be back , roll on season 4 ,best show on tv.

It was too "Witchblade" for me. I doubt I will be back for next season.

After Walter brought Peter into out universe I believe Peter died in the lake. But since Walter had crossed over he affected the fabric between the universes. Hence, the Observer had to undo his mistake and go back in time to save Peter. Peter's task was to help fix both the fabric between the universes.

I think I know what happened, Universe A and Universe B were first pulled together when Walter first went to the other side in 1985. Universe C or more appropriately Universe C-A was created when Peter stepped into the machine the first time. Universe C-A contained the remnants of Universe A but began to degrade without Universe B as a balance. When Peter stepped into the machine the second time in the future of Universe C-A, he came back to the present and formed a bridge between Universes A and B.

The retrocausal backlash from Universe C-A moving backward through time intersected with the bridge and formed Universe D where Peter was never born and Universe B was still destroyed.

Think of it as three spheres intersecting each other. One sphere is Universe A, the second is Universe B, the third sphere is Universe C-A. The volume of intersection of all three spheres is Universe D.

Why do you think the opening credits of FRINGE has fluctuating translucent spheres interacting with each other?

See I am a little confused and a little scared. I am almost positive Peter will be back but what did the secret code at the commercials mean? The symbols that they showed at the commercials spelled "No More". What does this mean? Is there no other universe since they have been intertwined or is there no more Peter?

Peter has called Walter "Dad" just once before, in an emotional moment, and it made Walter sniffly too.
