'Chuck' lives: Season 5 a go at NBC
Take heart, "Chuck" fans: Monday's season finale won't also be a series finale.NBC has renewed the series for a fifth season. Reports earlier in the week had the network leaning toward a pickup, but the official word came down Friday (May 13).
"The passion of the 'Chuck' fans has been heard again," co-creator Josh Schwartz tweeted. "We are all truly lucky to have the greatest fan base on TV. Thank you."
Season 5 will be the last for the show. As things stand now, NBC has ordered 13 episodes -- but that's also been the case the past two seasons, both of which ended up being extended.
Knowing the coming season will be the last is, in our minds, actually a good thing -- we'd even go so far as to say that NBC should keep the order at 13 episodes. We'd be inclined that way even if it only meant that fans won't have to suffer any more angst about a pickup at this time next year, but it also lets Schwartz, co-creator Chris Fedak and the other "Chuck" writers craft a final season that can build to a definite ending.
The show has already made several episodes that could have served as series finales if they needed to, but those episodes all left enough doors open to serve as launchpads for the next season (or, as with "Chuck vs. the Push Mix" this season, the continuation of the current one). Knowing the endpoint can give "Chuck" a chance to go out in the best possible way for its fans.
Thoughts on the pickup? Are you OK with Season 5 being the last?

Hooray!!
YES!!!! now CHUCK can go out in Style.
this truly makes me happy. Although they need to wrap it all up in season 5, the show is running out of gas, but I still love it!
The shoe isn't running out of gas. i think this season has been one of the best. I am so glad NBC picked it up. It shows that they at least care somewhat about the dedicated fans. The show can go out on top instead of just fading away now. Can't wait to see how it all wraps up!!
This is great news. Chuck is going to leave on it's own terms.
Totally doing a chuck rewatch to celebrate!
I still really like this show. I am happy to hear they are bringing it back to finish the storylines.
I hope they get a decent budget for the final season so they can go out in style.
I am a very very huge CHUCK fan, so I am gald it's back! I wish the ratings would have been better but against DWTS what do you expect. Now I loved season 1 how it was a weekly show about him and the intersect. The big story archs bugged me a bit except for the Chevy chase arch and Brandon Routh arch. It bugged me the family found out. But now he can go into reruns!
I am so proud of this show! I love watching it. I am glad it will be back, but sad for it being the last. I do agree though that now chuck can go out on its terms.
So happy to hear the renewal...had my fingers crossed with hope! Chuck is the ONLY show my husband and I make a point to sit down and watch each week. We will miss it whenever it finally ends. Until then...yay!
I am glad that they are renewing Chuck one last time. I am also glad that they are putting an end point on the show as some of the "Zing" to the show has faded. Either Extend it NOW, or make the 13 episodes final so we can have a unified final season that ends with a bang.
