Pilot Season: Tv of Tomorrow
'Bones' could share Season 7 with 'Finder' spin-off while Emily Deschanel is away
Some bittersweet news for "Bones" fans: the proposed "Finder" spin-off could be heading to FOX's fall schedule... while "Bones" star Emily Deschanel's pregnancy sidelines her own series.
Deadline reports that FOX is exploring ways to keep "Bones" going during Deschanel's maternity leave, and one of the suggestions is plugging in "Finder" storylines for as many as 6 to 7 episodes.
The proposal would boost the potential series' prospects of a full series order to the network's nearly-full schedule down the line and alleviate pressure to keep "Bones" on the air without its lead actress.
"The Finder," a backdoor pilot introduced during an April episode of "Bones," stars Geoff Stults as a neurotic Walter Sherman who has an uncanny ability to find anything. Deadline reports that Stults and sidekick Michael Clarke Duncan are both in contention for the pseudo pick-up, though there's no mention of other pilot co-star Saffron Burrows.
We here at Zap2it really liked "The Finder." And "Bones" fans seemed largely in favor of it, with two-thirds of polled readers saying they'd to see the series make it to TV -- but does this news change your opinion?

If they are trying to kill Bones this is a good way to start. There was tremendous resentment for wasting a Bones ep with the Finder pilot before and now they are talking 6-7 eps. If they work it right, she will have lots of time to spend with her new baby. *sarcasm*
i am really happy for Emily and i totally understand that she wants to spend time with her new baby, but 6 to 7 episodes without her is just not right!! it won't work. i didn't like The Finder and was mad that they took a whole episode of Bones for that and i don't want to see him in so many episodes in s7.
Loved The Finder episode and wouldn't mind a few episodes next season to coinside with Emily's pregnancy. I am really excited for this week's episode. However, If Booth and Brennan don't get together very very soon or make it very clear they will never get together I feel like most fans aren't going to care either way about this new spin-off episodes or maybe even a series.
Although the thought of a shorter Bones season is sad, it is for a good reason! Emily has the right like any woman to have a baby. That is what shows have to face when they have a female lead. Personally, I'd rather that they have a shorter season than film without Emily. I mean there is no "Bones" without Emily Deschanel! So, congratulations to Emily for her new baby! I wish her all the best.
not sure where the supposed "resentment" came from, as every bones fan i know thoroughly enjoyed the finder ep. i liked how the teams interacted, so incorporating them into bones temporarily sounds like a great idea to me!
why not just give Bones a 6-7 week hiatus and air the spinoff during the break as it's own series?
You here at Zap2it love everything. Every TV show you think we should watch. If it was up to you, we should 200 tv shows a week.
I'm with Blake.
The Finder was a waste
for my family of 3.
Just put the Finder to
sleep. It was a bad
show... bad writing
and actors.
Why is HH so determined
to get this show on FOX
at the expense of Bones.
Sad. I will miss Bones for half the season, but if they actors need time off ...
As for the Finder, I liked the writing and *loved* the supporting characters. The main guy, though Geoff Stults, was kind of boring. His paranoia was alienating, and he seemed rather stalkerish after suddenly obsessing with the 'bad girl' that he didn't really even meet as far as we know. He didn't pull off the "I see the good in you, bad girl" act, and his vengefulness upon her death seemed empty and unfounded ... just sayin'
I'd agree with Laura. Why are these two decisions (to run Finder and to give Bones half a season) linked at all? They should be separate decisions or it just seems like Hanson is sacrificing Bones for Finder.
