'American Idol's' Haley Reinhart: 'I'm going to start my career as a solo artist even sooner'
Haley Reinhart missed out on the "American Idol" finals, but she tells the press in her exit interview that she's at peace with how everything played out and she's excited to start her solo career. On performing with her dad:
"My parents have basically just taught me the rules of the stage and everything since I was eight. The first big thing I ever got to do, it was my 9th birthday, and I got to play the international tattoo festival. I sang 'Blue' actually, from LeAnn Rimes... I was overwhelmed, I cried afterwards. Going from that to on Wednesday, it's always been a dream of mine to get somewhere and ... to have them with me up there. I got to go back home and play with them and the band, and then actually to have them onstage, to show America what [my dad] can do, that was just so special to me ... [My dad] was just on cloud 9. He had a blast, he said this was my best concert ever. This is a keepsake for life that we'll always have, nothing can take that away from us."
On the judges being so hard on her:
"I believe their intentions for it throughout this whole process was simply to push me along further. It was apparent they wanted to get me at the top of my game and get me a little fired up inside so that I come out with something they really didn't expect or whatnot. ... As far as whether it hindered anything, I got to Top 3, so it's quite alright ... The only thing I can try to get out of that is they really wanted to push my buttons, push me as far as I could go to get what they wanted to get out of me. Most of the time that was fire. I would get angry, I would get aggravated and I would get it out on stage. I understand."
On why she struggled so much early on:
"I think I took a lot of risks in the beginning early on, when usually you do the opposite. Maybe America didn't know how to take me. I started getting into my own little niche, the rock bluesy sultry feel, throughout and I think America finally started to catch on and they kept me around!"
On how she felt when she was eliminated:
"You literally have seconds to think about it, so I took a second to think about it and then I said, 'Alright, alright' and I just kept saying it. And guess what, I have to sing a song in about five seconds. I wanted to have a good time with it and show America why they kept me there so long, give 'em a good show. I got offstage and I was at peace with everything, but I had the moment where I realized how much I was going to miss everybody. Everybody is such a great big family, that's one of the most wonderful parts of this whole experience. To create bonds with everybody. I knew I'd miss them ... All in all, I accepted it very quickly and took it all with a grain of salt and said, 'Hey, everything happens for a reason and this is a good thing.' This happened for a reason and it means I'm going to start my career as a solo artist even sooner."
"American Idol" airs Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.

She's a great talent and will go far.
Best AI moment this year was Haley and her Dad on stage together. What a treasure for them, and for us, too! She deserved to be in the finals though. I'll be waiting impatiently to buy her firt album---and hopefully many more after that.
Hey haley. your amazing. my thoughts on the judges being horrible to you? i don't like j lo anymore and i never cared for randy much. in my oppinion J lo was jeallous! You have the whole packages. Your beautiful, a singer, a dancer, much stage presence and MORE! your great! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CAREER! WE LOVEEEEEEEE you!
As far as the comments that her fan base was not as big as Scotty's & Lauren's and that's why she is gone...probably the fact that adults over 21 were more of her fan base has to do with the outcome. Voting 10-50 times for Haley may have seemed like good support for her by adults, but they were overwhelmed by 12-14 year old girls (networking) with apps that allowed 8,000 votes/hour. Idol, evidently discounted those programmed voting blocks by 50%, but that still meant a 12 year old could vote 8,000 times for Scotty in 2 hours. Bottom line, Haley was the last one standing out of the top 24 who didn't sing only country. Her downloads and youtube views confirm she has a larger fan base (worldwide) than Scotty or Lauren, and her memorable 4 standing ovations confirm her overall star appeal.
Just proves that it's NOT really a singing contest, doesn't it? Too bad. All those pre-pubescent little girls with indulgent daddies to pay for the devices that allowed them to vote thousands of times aren't going to buy the albums the final two are going to release.
I think idol should do what dancing with the stars does and allow only a certain amount of votes per phone line, or on line. That would put it all back into perspective and keep the teeny boppers from ruling the show. Otherwise, it's just a question of who's the cutest or the youngest. Which is what this all came down to. Who could vote the most times for the cute country boy or the cute teenage girl.
I dont think some of these adults know about the tweenie kids voting 8000 times a piece... I know what they should do.. AMERICAN IDOL .. only kids from 15 to 19 yrs of age.. how is that. Even Lauren admited , probably by mistake that she was glad there were 2 young ones competeing..HOW OLD DOES SHE THINK HALEY IS..SHE IS ONLY 20. she probably figured she would win... I was suprised she didnt cry that she didnt make it.. This year, American Idol has done it for me.. I was upset last year for what they kept doing to Casey James. and this year Randy and J Lo were unbelieveable it was so up front what they were doing.. never correcting the others but mean to Haley... I sure hope she doesnt have to put up with them.. I hope Randy has nothing to do with her music.. I wouldnt trust him....
