'American Idol': Will Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina duet in the future?
"We're friends. This isn't a competition, we're just singing out hearts out."
This is what Scotty McCreery said about competing against Lauren Alaina for the title of Season 10's "American Idol" on Tuesday, May 24. All together now: Aw!
Lauren, 16, and Scotty, 17, answered reporters' questions during a press conference held at the Nokia Theatre, the same venue they'll be singing for their hearts out in less than 24 hours. Both country crooners seemed relaxed and totally ready for the finale.
When asked what it says about country music that the final two are both young country artists, Scotty says, "Country music is hip. Country music fans are loyal. They've gotten us here so we owe all of this to them."I think it'd be good."
Scotty and Lauren have performed several duets together on the show and are looking forward to singing together even after their "Idol" journey comes to an end. "We've talked about it a lot," Scotty says.
Will they put out country albums after "Idol":
Scotty: Yeah, we're both country. I'm going to go in there and try to make a country album. That's what I love, that's what I've grown up with and it that crosses over, great, but if not, country is what I want to focus on.
On how they are staying grounded and not letting all the attention go to their heads:
Scotty: It's tough for us because we're both from small towns and no where around LA. This is all new for us. We just try to stay true to ourselves and stay in our boots. That's what I always tell myself to stay grounded and just take it one day at a time. We'll see where it leads us.
Lauren: You know, this place is completely different from where I'm from. I went home and realized how small the buildings are and how everything is like a little dollhouse compared to here. It's such a great experience and I'm so glad to be here.
Scotty on having women like Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce compliment him:
Scotty: It's wild, man. It's crazy for me because I grew up watching both of them. I don't know what it is. It wasn't like that back home!
Will Scotty shave his head for the finale like J.Lo suggested?:
Scotty: This has been the biggest thing on my mind! Every time I look in the mirror I think, 'Should I? Should I not?' I used to have short hair. That was me and the boys back home. We said, 'Short hair, don't care.' I'm torn. If J.Lo cuts it I might, because how many chances do you get to have the most beautiful woman in the world cut your hair? I don't know. I might. Tune in to see. I still don't know.
How the two are mentally preparing themselves for the finale:
Scotty: I'm just going to tell myself to stay calm. We played for 30,000 back in our hometowns, but there's like 8,000 in there [Nokia Live] and it's totally more intimidating. It's more intimate. It's in one room. It's a whole new ballgame for for us and we just have to keep ourselves clam and not get too riled up.
Lauren: I feel good because we got reunited with all the other people who got eliminated and they are like our family and they're really supportive. It's good to have that because it's tough to be around Scotty all the time! (laughs)
What would it mean to Lauren if she won:
Lauren: I have dreamed of being the next American Idol since I was six years old. I would stand in my living room and scream into my remote control. Either way, I think I'm going to win. If I lost to Scotty, I'd still be winning because he is the bomb.
How Lauren hurt her big toe:
Lauren: "There was this cute guy and I wasn't paying attention and I was waving and I didn't see this concrete step and I face planted into the concrete and skinned the top of my toe completely. That's my story. Period.

Scotty is the best singer to ever be on American Idol. And not even his teacher knowed he could sing like he can. He surprised not just his small town, and the USA but the whole world. I hope U win Scotty. U got my vote!
Scotty won the season. Lauren and her mom may have won the moment with help from the judges. Scotty has been much more consistant than Lauren. She's young and talented...but Scotty can name his ticket. He's going to be HUGE!
How about two Idol winners this season? Why not??? It would WOW America and the world and American Idol's ratings would sky rocket. Go for it!! Love to see Lauren and Scotty as a duet until later in careers. Again, Why Not??
I am serious. Is it too late?? Has it been decided?? Couldn't it be fixed at the last possible moment. Those of you who are concerned about American Idols rating going down, this would put it right back on top. Way on top!!
LET THEM SING THEIR HEARTS OUT TOGETHER.....WHY NOT?? WOULD BE THE GREATEST EVER. AMERICAN IDOL'S REPUTATION WOULD GO WAY, WAY UP!!!
I think Scotty and Lauren have magic in their voices when they are combined together. They would be an awesome duet couple. They both have wonderful backgrounds and really compliment each other well. They remind me of Faith Hill and Tim McGraw and the wonderful realationship they have together. I wish them both luck !
