'You've Got a Friend' in Scotty McCreery on 'American Idol'
For Carole King week on "American Idol," country crooner Scotty McCreery took on "You've Got a Friend" and what could have been a terribly cheesy performance actually ended up being Scotty's best performance, in our minds.
It was tender, dynamic and he kept putting in these really lovely little runs in his lower register. We agreed with Randy Jackson that we'd like to hear Scotty hold his higher notes a little more sometimes, but overall, it was just lovely.
We would imagine his legion of teenage girl and middle-age mom fans will be going bats*** crazy to vote for Scotty. What did you think? Were you as swept up in the moment as we were?

He was amazing, again! Should be the next AI! I love his range but really like the low notes-wow. And what a cutey! I'm starting to get miffed at J. Lo's change in support of him over the last couple of weeks! She thought he was fantastic and then all of a sudden has gone critical??? What's up with that?
Well, no doubt he gets my Middle Aged Mom votes. His voice is so classic country to me, I mean old school from the 60's, that it is just out of this world!! Feel like i'm trippin', man!!!
I got tired of my favorite idols like Stefano and Pia getting voted off... So I found an automatic voting tool that actually worked online... It got over 20 votes in 5 minutes. Dayum.

I'm really glad I wasn't the only person that noticed JLo's "anti-scottness". I think it may just be that she doesn't appreciate country music as much as pop music, so she's trying to push the "pop" singers in the competition. But luckily, the majority of America doesn't agree and loves Scotty. That's why I think it'll be a duel between Scotty and James in the end.
The ITunes version of "You've Got A Friend" is WAY different that the version Scotty sang on air. After the first verse its uptempo all the way! He's has fiddles and banjo with it! He even its a falsetto note near the end. It sounds like something of a Glen Cambell type arrangment. Its totally better than how he did it live and more unique. That was a huge mistake not singing this version on the show. I wonder who talked him out of it...
Agree! JLo and Randy both were so carried away with Scotty right from the start. Randy said just a couple of weeks ago "A star is born on this stage tonight" speaking of Scotty. Now they are picking him like he was the last chicken on the block. By the way it isnt just the teenyboppers and middle aged moms. I am 61 and Scotty has been my pick since day one! We just love him cause he is real, has personality, and his voice is great. Can't wait for him to be able to sing what HE loves, and that is those real country songs wih that deep bass voice of his. GO SCOTTY! LOVE THIS YOUNG MAN! Randy Jlo you two straighten up!
Would love to hear Scotty sing Brook Benton`s songs
Scotty is awesome! It's just unfortunate that not all his international fanS can vote. But I trust America will get it right and make him win AI10. Love this kid!
I thought Scotty did GREAT!! Go Scotty.
It has become evident that the so-called judges have lost their objectivity. They are no longer judges but promoters of their the one they feel will bring them the best recording contract from which they get rich. All along they tell him they appreciate that he not trying to satisfy everyone and that he should stay where is gift from God is, singing classic Country. And all of sudden, like a pit bull or snake, they turn on him. Being the good person his parents taught him to be he listen attentive and did not get discouraged and gave a great performance of "You've got a friend". Go Scotty, God is with you and we are praying for you and your family.
