'Two and a Half Men': Chuck Lorre makes plans for Sheen-free Season 9

"Two and a Half Men" creator Chuck Lorre has reportedly come up with a way to continue the CBS comedy for a ninth season without the involvement of Charlie Sheen. Lorre's plan would refocus the show around Jon Cryer's character, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sheen was fired from the show in March. He's suing Lorre and "Men" producer Warner Bros. TV for breach of contract, but he's also said numerous times in the past couple months that he'd be open to the idea of returning to the series.

The HR says Sheen is still "actively working" to get his job back and has been trying to meet with other members of the show's cast and gain their support. Lorre and Warner Bros., however, are reportedly not interested in having him return to the series.

Lorre's pitch for a Sheen-less "Two and a Half Men" would revolve around Cryer's character, divorced dad Alan Harper, his son Jake (Angus T. Jones) and a new character. The HR says Warner Bros. has "quietly begun pursuing" actors to play the new role.

CBS will present its 2011-12 lineup to advertisers on May 18, and presumably will have something to say about the future of "Two and a Half Men" by that time.

Wow, it took Chucky boy 3 months to come up with this new plot for "Men", talk about an EPIC FAIL. If this was going to be the plan, they could have done this months ago and even filmed 4-8 episodes of this "new" idea for the show. I can't wait for this to BLOW UP in Chucky's face. After the curious watch the first episode, EVERYONE will tune out and CBS's Monday night line-up will tank like the last few weeks have been.

its probably gonna suck...! say what u want about sheen, but he was good at what he was doing..

Will not watch. Charlie (and his many gorgeous "dates") were the show. Lorre's ego has killed this series.

Minor issue, but technically Lorre is co-creator (along with Lee Aronsohn). Anyways, I think this was to be expected when Sheen was fired. As long as they don't spend too much time on Jake, he's been annoying for about 3 seasons now.

Jeez, If it won't be Charlie then just drop the show altogether. It's won't BE 2 1/2 Men anymore without Charlie. Either hire him back or move on to something else. I think this just shows that Sheen was right about Chuck Lorre.

Move Charlie Harper into a permanent rehab.........and let Herb move in......the great ensemble cast doesn't need Sheen anyway! Plus, you can still make jokes about him in rehab, talk about art imitating life!

The young kid is no longer the "1/2" part. Focus on him being the WHOLE man and cast a new younger actor to play the "1/2".

Sheen is a mess and is not worth even trying to bring him back. The key to this is good writing and getting a new guy that will mix well with the cast, but be an entirely new character with different quirks.

Hate to say it, but just as The Office really is irrelevant without Steve Carrell, no matter how good the supporting cast, and whether one agrees with Sheen on general opinions or not, it still was very much the Charlie Sheen show. If they do continue the series, they'd be well advised to at least change the name and treat it as a spin-off which might give it a better chance of survival beyond 13 episodes.
