The CW picks up 'Vampire Diaries,' 'Supernatural,' '90210,' 'Gossip Girl'

spn-tvd-stefan-sam-lg.jpgThe word "duh" comes to mind.

The CW has officially renewed "The Vampire Diaries," "Supernatural," "90210," "Gossip Girl," and "America's Next Top Model" for the 2011-2012 season, surprising... well, nobody.

Though ratings are down from its first season, "The Vampire Diaries" remains the network's top-rated show. Executive producer Julie Plec teases that the show's Season 2 finale, airing May 12, will set up the tonality of Season 3. In future seasons, they plan to explore the issue of the vampires' immortality, and the loneliness therein.

"Supernatural" has performed extremely well in its new Friday timeslot, even against genre competition like FOX's "Fringe." Executive producer Bob Singer told Zap2it that this year's Season 6 finale ends with a cliffhanger, so we're glad to see that we'll get some resolution in Season 7.

Though "Gossip Girl" and "90210" haven't been ratings juggernauts from the get-go, they contribute considerably to the image of the network and have been a successful Monday night pairing. They remain watercooler shows for teenagers across the country.

"America's Next Top Model" is The CW's only consistently performing reality show. The CW plans to air an "All-star" version next fall.

Still up in the air? Veteran series "One Tree Hill" and newbies "Hellcats" and "Nikita." "Life Unexpected" is not... well, expected to return.

Woot!! Supernatural is back :) I hope Eric comes back (which he probably won't...)... I miss his plots... He really understood the characters and the need for a certain plot. Sera has been doing alright, but I haven't seen any great plot twists or climatic scenes that Supernatural was known for before. Sera is cool and amazing but honestly, no one can compare to Eric and his 5 year plan!

I'm psyched about TVD, 90210 and Gossip Girl. I'm crossing my fingers for One Tree Hill. I thought it was done but the possibility of season 9 has me all worked up.

I like parts of Hellcat's but it hasn't grown on me. If anything I'm over it. And Nikita just seems too old for the cw. Or maybe it's just not my taste, the only part of it that held my attention was Devon Sawa. Which... was completely worthwhile.

Thanks for the good news on Supernatural. Love that show.

Supernatural is still decent. The only other show I watch on CW is Nikita so hopefully they'll pick it up.

How far will THE CW go to put an end on "One Tree Hill"?

Wonderful news...Supernatural returns for a seventh season! Best show on television. Thank you!

Gossip Girl, 90210 and America's Next Top Model all need to be canceled. Glad The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural were renewed, although they were sure bets. Disappointed to have to wait for news on Nikita, but I'm 100% confident for a S2. Yes, it targets an older audience - but, that was the whole reason they picked it up in the first place. Before it even premiered, they said in the press release they wanted something different for the network. One of the best shows on the network (if not the best in my personal opinion) aside from The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and Smallville (which is ending anyway). Sorry, but the whole lame teen soap opera genre is just that - lame and pathetic - which is why I suppose it fits in so well on the CW. Don't see Hellcats being renewed and don't want One Tree Hill to come back, but it probably will.

Glad Supernatural is coming back, love that show! Same with Top Model, can always watch that! Please pick up One Tree Hill for another season! I know it probably can't last too much longer, but i'm not ready to give up my favorite show!!!

I'm So happy 90210 is being renewed and I'm very disappointed that they haven't renewed HELLCATS I Love that show as for Nikita and Life Unexpected they can go and another show im getting tired of is the vampire diaries i am come on writers spice it up a little better BORING comes to mind because its all about 2 brother vampires fighting over one girl TIRED but just my opinion..

I hope they renew Nikita it's the only reason besides TVD that I watch the CW. Nikita keeps getting better and better and we need shows like this besides Soapy shows.
