'Supernatural' anime hits U.S. shelves; Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles featured
If, like us, you often ponder the eternal question, "How can I get more 'Supernatural' in my life?" it's your lucky day. Warner Bros. has announced that "Supernatural: The Anime Series" will be released domestically on DVD and Blu-ray on July 26, 2011. It'll also be available for download.According to the press release: "SUPERNATURAL: THE ANIME SERIES revisits the Winchester brothers' journey down the backroads of America as they search for clues to their father's disappearance, hunt down the supernatural in all its unearthly forms, and enter into the unexpected mystery of their destinies. The SUPERNATURAL anime episodes mirror the story arc of the series' first two seasons, providing supplemental stories ranging from prequels and spin-offs to untold tales that fit within the SUPERNATURAL mythology."
Jared Padalecki provides the voice of Sam Winchester for all 22 anime episodes, while Jensen Ackles appears as Dean in only select episodes. The animated versions of Sam and Dean have been designed to look like Padalecki and Ackles, but other characters, like Bobby and John, have been re-designed.
In the DVD set, Padalecki and Ackles provide a video intro for every episode. They're also all over the special features in a series of interviews -- as is "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke.
We'll be placing our pre-order -- we can't help but be curious about how Dean will sound with someone else's voice. Will "Supernatural The Anime Series" find a place on your shelves?

I'm looking forward to it. It will be very interesting, I think. I'm glad Jared did Sam's voice for the whole thing. It will be odd to hear somebody else voicing Dean -- and Bobby and John for that matter.
aww.. i would love to see that.. but I am also wondering how it will turn out.. Dean is not Dean if not for Jensen's signature gruff..
I saw the first one already and unfortunately, it wasn't very good. It was also very jarring to hear Sam (Jared)but not Dean (Jensen). So much so, they might as well have said it was a package deal, if one couldn't do it, they wouldn't use either of them, because it is so imbalanced when you watch it. The voices are EVERYTHING when you're talking animation.
That said, I'm going to pass on purchasing this.
juels i don't know what you mean about voices being everything when it comes to animation. isn't it supposed to be either the animation or storyline?
I've also seen the first episode, and I thought the guy playing Dean did a very good job matching Jensen's voice. I also liked the animation style and the plot, so I am definitely putting this Dvd on my wish list. Plus it will be something to tide me over during the Hellatus...if we get a season 7.
In the beginning of the first episode, the voice-actor for Dean tries too hard to sound like Jensen, but I think he was better by the end of it, and he continues to get better over the next episodes. That said, I can't wait to see the episodes with Jensen's voice.
I definitely can't wait to get it! I already saw first few episodes online and its Awesome! Sure there are some changes made but of course there would be its a Japanese anime cartoon not Supernatural live action show so they had to make it unique its still got the same basic core and chemistry between the brothers that everyone shouloves!
