'Real Housewives of D.C.' canceled -- for real this time

We know you've probably heard this before, but it's official now: There won't be a second season of "The Real Housewives of D.C."

Half Yard Productions, which produced the show for Bravo, has informed the cast -- including infamous White House party crasher Michaele Salahi -- that the show has been canceled. Bravo's original programming chief Andy Cohen also confirmed the cancellation.

"We had an amazing season and we told stories that were unique to any other in the franchise," Cohen tells the Washington Post. "I wish all our DC Wives the best and hope to work with them again in another capacity."

Rumors about the fate of "RHODC" have been swirling pretty much since the show's season ended in October and Bravo, deviating from its usual pattern, took a wait-and-see approach to ordering a second season. It averaged a respectable 1.4 million viewers in its first season, but when "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," which premiered right after the Washington season ended, came along and drew bigger ratings (and more media buzz), it may have sealed "D.C.'s" doom.

"RHODC" becomes the first member of the "Real Housewives" franchise not to last at least two seasons on Bravo.
