Julia Louis-Dreyfus comedy 'Veep' voted in at HBO
Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be joining her former "Seinfeld" boss Larry David on HBO.The cable channel has picked up "Veep," a comedy series starring Louis-Dreyfus as a senator who is elevated to vice president. The series will go into production in the fall and is set to premiere next year, Deadline reports.
The show comes from British writer Armando Iannucci, who knows the political arena pretty well: He created the cult BBC comedy "The Thick of It," about a hapless British government minister and his staff, and co-wrote and directed the 2009 movie "In the Loop," which featured several characters from the series.
In "Veep," Louis-Dreyfus' character, Selina Meyer, will discover that being a heartbeat away from the presidency is not what she expected -- and is exactly what people warned her about before she took the job. The series also stars Anna Chlumsky ("In the Loop," "Covert Affairs") as Selina's chief of staff and Tony Hale ("Arrested Development") as another aide, along with Reid Scott ("My Boys"), Sufe Bradshaw, Matt Walsh ("Outsourced," "The Hangover") and Tim Simons.
Iannucci directed the pilot and co-wrote it with his "The Thick of It" and "In the Loop" colleague Simon Blackwell. Iannucci, Chris Godsick and Frank Rich are the executive producers; Blackwell is a co-exec producer, and Louis-Dreyfus has a producer credit.

Hoping it's not as bad as Old Christine was.
I totally disagree. Old Christine was a really funny show. It should still be on the air instead of several other CBS sitcoms like Mad Love, #%@ My Dad Says and Mike & Molly. I appreciate the fact that Louis-Dreyfus played such a deeply flawed character much like Elaine was on Seinfeld.
To bad I dumped my HBO last Monday because of their left-wing bias, now I won't know if it sucks until I read the reviews.
I would definetely watch Mad Love, #%&@ My Dad Says or Mike & Molly before I would ever watch another episode of Old Christine. Talk about left wing bias. Old Christine was full of that which is why I stopped watching. I guess they want to make The West Wing but turn it into a comedy now.
Left wing bias? Geez, are you serious? What subversive messages could they have possibly been sending out to the masses? Relax, Old Christine was just a sitcom trying to be funny not some politically charged 30 minute liberal infomercial. Dan, I guess you should keep watching Fox News. They'll tell you what's OK for you to watch.
If you want to get rid of any left wing bias you might as well just throw your whole television out. The world is becoming a more intelligent place. If all the tea-baggers throw out their TVs then the viewing population will increase in intelligence and, by association, the television offered will cater more to us smart folks instead of ignorant backwards rednecks.
Ahh, Bry you must truly be a half-wit. Maybe a fourth-wit. You clearly love government intrusion in your life and want to pay more taxes so the government can spend more on its own waste. Perhaps you should move to Greece. Better yet, China. And yes, just like in the news, there is plenty of left-wing bias in entertainment. All those who make American entertainment live in their own little bio-dome of leftists and think everyone thinks like them. Thank the gods only twenty percent actually do. That's why I still have hope for my country.
Nope, I'm far from a half-wit, or a fourth-wit. Glad to see you can divide fractions through. Congrats! Home school did pay off after all! I'm fine with paying more taxes to provide help to those who need it, though there is a limit to what is acceptable for government intrusion. What I hate to hear is black and white thinking, the idea that it HAS to be completely one way or another. What happened to a happy medium?
