Hoover pulls ads from ABC due to cancellation of 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live'
Making an "ABC sucks" joke would just be too easy, right?Vacuum maker Hoover is less than pleased about the cancellation of ABC soap operas "All My Children" and "One Life to Live." And by less than pleased we really mean furious.
The company has decided to pull all their ads from the network in protest of the soaps' cancellations, Deadline reports. Hoover has also decided to start a campaign to save the two shows. The company's marketing VP Brian Kirkendall posted a letter on their Facebook page, which reads:
"I want you to know from me personally that we hear you loud and clear. My wife and mother are both passionate viewers of All My Children and One Life to Live, as are many of my colleagues here at Hoover. We were and are as disappointed with this news as you are.
In fact, we will discontinue our advertising with ABC this Friday, 4/22. We're making every attempt to pull our spots from these programs sooner.
Because we feel that's not enough, we also want to help get your voice heard with ABC. So, we've set up a special email address, SaveTheSoaps@Hoover.com, to help pull together the mass emotional outpouring of support for our beloved ABC soaps and get it to our contacts at ABC. Please, send your emails to us at SaveTheSoaps@Hoover.com, and we'll get every, single last one of them to ABC.
We're 150% committed to doing what matters most to you - so if there's anything else we can do to help or you have any ideas, please email this address, and we will respond to you personally.
Thank you for standing up for what matters to you! We need more of that in this world."
What do you think of Hoover's decision to pull their ads from ABC?

I don't know how it will change anything but I applaud the effort. I think it is a crying shame that so many fans were so simply dismissed due to ABC's decision in the first place. It was a slap in the face and everyone knows it. We don't need another food or lifestyle show on the air. So what was the harm in giving those fans their shows? The problem is there are only about 25,000 Nielsen families out there determining what is on television. Maybe the networks need a better monitoring system to figure out what America is really watching?
For us people who have watched these shows since they started this is going to leave a big void in our lives. Seeing as ABC or any other station can not provide a decent show or anything worth watching these days seems my tv will go blank as far as ABC will be concerned. Seems everything is geered to the young these days and does not mean crap to us that enjoy what little there is on TV. If they jerk the shows hope some one else will pick them up and run ABC out of business, Thanks for letting me have my say!
I applaud Hoover for doing this!! Brian Frons has already stated he WOULD NOT reconsider the decision to cancel the ABC Soaps... so the fans are working to cancel ABC's viewership and sponsorship. Not watching ANY ABC programming EXCEPT for the Soaps and hoping more sponsors will consider pulling advertising from the network as well.
It's really none of Hoover's business. Who do they think they are interfering with the business decisions of another company? What would they do if they discontinued a product that was selling poorly and another company mounted a campaign demanding they bring it back? This is ridiculous. Hoover needs to either pony up the money ABC needs to make those two shows viable or else it needs to butt out. And the last part about "standing up for what matters to you" is hysterical... it's not like they're trying to stop ABC from clubbing baby seals to death or something. They're soap operas. Get off your soap box and get back to making vacuums, Hoover. Oh, and get a life.
I think it was time for the soaps to leave I really do. However, the replacement shows are a slap in the face of every viewer who ever watched those shows and the people who worked on them. How dare they put such CRAP on as replacements. The Chew are you effing kidding me? That is almost as bad as brining Paul Reiser back to prime time (almost)
I am still shell shocked about them cancelling my 2 shows that I record every dang day... but I've gotta say, if anybody touches or even talks about touching General Hospital, there will be hot damm consequences and repercussions!!
But it is Hoover's business, as it is their ad dollars. I give them credit for their efforts, as they seem to care what their customers think of them.
I also wonder why it is that they or any other sponsor would want to be associated with a network that's so disdainful of their partners and customers.
Like any business, if their partners and customers are that unhappy with their decision-making, I would hope such criticism would lead to reconsideration of their actions.
Beyond that, as it has not been at all established that these shows are not viable--to the contrary, they've apparently been viable for over 40 years--there's no real need to respond to that nonsense.
Bottom line: since when is "clubbing seals" the equivalent of unemploying hundreds if not thousands of people in an economy as rotten as this one? Seriously, I think you need to straighten out your priorities.
