'Geordie Shore': MTV U.K.'s answer to 'Jersey Shore'

geordie-shore2.jpgAn idea as good as "Jersey Shore" was bound to spawn spin-offs. MTV U.K. just released a trailer for a British take on the concept (the concept being turn a camera on a house full of self-involved fake-baked dingbats): "Geordie Shore."

Set in Newcastle, the show will follow eight young "toons" (apparently the word for folks from Newcastle) as they party and preen and, no doubt, hook up with the U.K. equivalent of grenades and discover -- much like Snooki and J-WOWW -- that life can be one big night out.

From an MTV press release:

"Living in a gorgeous five star house complete with shared bedrooms, a shag-pile outhouse for 'special visitors' and a hot tub, MTV cameras will catch all the action as they work during the day for a promotions company and then get their tash on at night, at some of the most renowned hotspots on the Diamond Strip."

We're assuming "outhouse" is somehow synonymous with "smoosh room," though we're a little frightened about the possibilities. Oh, and a British accent does nothing to cut down on the level of skankiness.

A run-down of the cast and, in parentheses, who we see as his or her "Jersey Shore" equivalent.

Jay: "My Biggest Fear is getting wrinkles" (Pauly D)

Vicky: "I'm a Geordie girl with a VIP edge." (Sammi Sweetheart)

Gary: "I should have a degree in pulling women." (The Situation)

Charlotte-Letitia: "I would never kiss anyone without a six-pack." (Snooki)

James: "The hardest [thing] I've ever done is doing me hair." (Ronnie)

Sophie: "I could talk the back legs off a donkey." (Deena)

Greg: [unintelligible]. (Vinnie)

Holly: "I'm fit, I'm flirty and I've got double Fs." (J-WOWW)

The clip below -- just a peek at the opening credits -- is like a shot-for-shot copycat of the stateside version. Still, we hope this airs on the Web. We have to watch something while we wait for the fourth season of "Jersey Shore" (currently filming in Italy). Besides, we would like to hear "t-shirt time" with a British accent just once.
