Boston Rob Mariano has a new show: 'Around the World in 80 Ways' on History
While Boston Rob Mariano is still sweating it out on "Survivor: Redemption Island," in real life he is about to launch a new series in the History Channel called "Around the World in 80 Ways." Mariano and Dennis Anderson (creator of Gravedigger, a famous monster truck) will host the 10-part series that premieres later this year. The hook is they will circumnavigate the globe using 80 different modes of transportation without repeating a single vehicle. The travel modes will include a blimp, a fighter jet, an ostrich, a canoe, a chariot and sometimes they'll have to build their own vehicles. Sometimes they'll work cooperatively and sometimes they'll race. Cool.
Dick Hoogstra, Senior VP of Development and Programming for the channel, says, "This series captures History's commitment to highly compelling entertainment within a historical framework. The dynamic between our two hosts will make for great television, while viewers can journey around the world with them to explore the ingenuity of travel in every era, throughout all stages of technological advances."
Boston Rob will be the third "Survivor" alum to have a show on the History Channel. Colby Donaldson, runner-up on "Survivor: The Australian Outback," currently hosts the channel's trick shooting show "Top Shot" and Hunter Ellis of "Marquesas" has hosted several shows for History including "Tactical to Practical." Thanks to alert commenter J for the tip.
What say you, "Survivor" fans? Looking forward to it?

This show will be mostly about the history of white trash Douche bags all around the world...Rob's specialty.

Yessss!!!!
Another poor research job by the geniuses at zap2it. Hunter Ellis hosted From Tactical to Practical on the history channel and is also a former survivor contestant. good job as always!
Talking about yourself, moi?
I will not watch any show with Boston Rob or his wife. If it was Russell..maybe.. :-)
What has become of the History Channel? Shows about truckers, pawn shops, lumberjacks and now this self-promoting a-hole? What does any of it have to do with history?
Clearly, you don't actually watch these shows, Indysteve. The shows are used as frameworks and history is explored through the use of specific items. If a Roman coin is brought in to be pawned, we will learn a lot about that specific item AND about the history of coinage. My husband and I are both histru buffs and enjoy these shows, even if they do attempt to jazz up the presentation through colorful characters and silly personal conflicts. It's a way to convey history even to those who aren't history buffs--and hopefully to create new buffs in the process.
That is great news. I will watch this show in fact will watch just about anything with Boston Rob. So happy History Channel sees his potential.
Charley Boorman (Long Way Round) has already done something remarkably similar: By Any Means (Ireland to Sydney, Australia).
While Boston Rob is great in Survivor, I'm not sure I could put up with him in his own show.
As for the History Channel's mission, it sounds a lot like SyFy cancelling SF shows to air wrestling and cooking shows. :-(
