'American Idol's' Thia Megia: 'We figured ... the votes were going to be more for the guys'

thia-megia-american-idol-2.jpgLittle Thia Megia was the latest in the line of women to be sent home from "American Idol" Season 10. Find out what she thought about her experience and how hard it was to leave.

Was she surprised that she went home?

"Actually, I really didn't know what to expect at all since there are lot of great singers in this competition. I guess I was feeling a mixture of emotions before getting up on stage. I wanted this so bad but I guess everybody else is just so incredible. You just kind of prepare yourself for whatever happens. I didn't know what to feel, to be honest. I'm happy for Paul, I'm happy for the both of us because I know we're gonna be going on tour. And all the exposure we've gotten from the show has been incredible."

On her schooling, since she is a minor:

"We had school like 3 to 4 hours a day, so I thought that we didn't really get enough rehearsal time, but it was sort of an advantage to us because being minors it was like an escape for all of us, escape from all the stress and just focusing on school room, so there were some disadvantages and some advantages to that. It was cool to actually have that time to bond with the other minors, especially me and Lauren Alaina. It wasn't too bad I guess."

On her favorite part of the competition:

"I enjoyed every bit of the competition. I guess that was what made it really hard to say goodbye last night because you think about every single thing you've experienced on the show. You kind of think to yourself, 'I'm going to miss that so much.' But it's really not the end of the competition. We're gonna see each other in a couple weeks anyway and there's the tour, which is so exciting. I'm going to miss the vocal coaches, they've taught me so much. I've grown so much as an artist and a person."

On the fact four females in a row have gone home:

"We figured that since there are more females watching the show, the votes were going to be more for the guys, ya know? [laughs] It's not only that 'cause the guys are also incredible, but we were a bit worried about that, we were a bit intimidated by all the girls watching the show and knowing that their votes would be going to the guys." [laughs]

On which artists she'd like to work with:

"One of my most favorite musical inspirations would have to be Adele and Jason Mraz. Their lyrics are so beautiful and complex. I also love older music like Billie Holiday and a bunch of old artists. Right now, though, Adele and Jason Mraz would have to be my favorites."

On whether she should've chosen much upbeat songs:

"I do regret not choosing more upbeat songs, but the last performance I did, I don't regret at all. I dedicated that to my brother and I poured all the emotion I had inside of me into that song and I don't regret doing it at all. For the previous weeks, I wish I would've done more upbeat songs because I don't want to come off as just a ballad singer, which I probably did. I just hope America knows I can do so much more ... I actually wanted to sing 'Chasing Pavements' by Adele. I sang it for my audition, but I never actually got to sing a 90-second version on the show. I would have loved, loved, loved to sing that."

"American Idol" airs Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

thank god you're gone. you suck

She is right though, girls watch the show and vote, guys dont, so odds are all the little girls will vote for what they think is the cute guy, and not on talent.

I don't think she sucks. But to me, she didn't seem to be having that much fun. It was all very...practiced-perfect.

Except for "Heat Wave."

I hope to hear from her again in a few years or so.

@joe really?can you sing? do you have the confidence to sing like Thia?? ??? You suck Joe!!! RACIST!!

I don't think she sucks. She has bad song choices, and that's about it. If this girl will have the right producer, we'll hear her soon with her own type of music. I think I know what direction she wants to go. She likes a more significant, lyrics centered, mellow music which we always love.

I think Pia is fine, and the rest like James and Jacob. They're coward I believe. They just sing big songs and scream to show off. No authenticity at all.

I definitely agree with you George. Thia has the best vocals among them all. She reminds me of Karen Carpenter. Her voice is perfect, something that will make you fall asleep..She has a unique voice.

Thia has an amazing voice, she should have believed in herself for her to really show how extra ordinary talent she has, but she was holding back and her akwardness showed. I am proud of her but a little disappointed somehow for not showing how she really wanted this like the rest. But she really has a voice to proud of and I know if she will just give it her best...she will have long way to go.

Thia, when God closes a door He opens a window.

Thia was good. But I believe it will go down to Pia and Casey. They are the best. Scotty and Haley are good too, but not as good.

Thia was very talented, but I believe she is not what AMERICA is looking for in an IDOL..She can sing, but her competition is quite fierce and more experienced in the art. She will be a force to be reckoned with if she continues to seek a career in music...GOOD JOB THIA!!! WISHIN YOU ALL THE BEST and when your first CD comes out, I'll be purchasing it....
