'American Idol' Top 9 rewind: Kris Allen, Casey James, Kellie Pickler and more
As "American Idol" Season 10 reaches each stage of the finals, Zap2it is looking back at that stage in the past years. So far, our readers have voted Carrie Underwood's "Alone" as the best Top 11 performance and David Cook's "Billie Jean" as the best Top 10 performance. The Idols are prepping for Top 9 this week (Lennon/McCartney songbook), so here is a look back at the best Top 9 performances in "Idol" history. Which one gets your vote? (And don't worry, we aren't leaving out Season 1 - it didn't have a Top 9, it went from Top 10 to Top 8 because two people went home the first week).

Um, I think Hello by David Cook is the best EVER, and Heartless by Kris Allen could arguably be his best and in the top 3 or five, Clay Aiken's should be Bridge Over Troubled Water, and Adam Lambert's should be Mad World. Also this list would not make any sense without a Kelly Clarkson song, so probably Natural woman from her.
Um, to Todd Manning (lol) this is just the best of Top 9 week (I agree with you on Hello and Heartless, just switched around) so that's why they aren't included in poll.
That said, what did Kelly do Top 9 week?
And Ain't No Sunshine -easily one of my all time favorite performances of any week. :)
Loved Kris Allen's "Ain't No Sunshine." So much emotion! Loved it and still do.
If you read the post, it explains that Season 1 didn't have a Top 9 - they went from Top 10 (eliminated two) to Top 8.
Kelly Clarkson's 'Natural Woman' was top 8 week...Season 1 did not have a top 9, because two people were eliminated top 10 week.
Kris Allen's "Ain't No Sunshine"
*SIGH*
Lord...Kris is sooooo good. What a talent.
Casey James - Jealous Guy
It was one of the most genuine and emotionally honest performances that idol has ever had.
Best Idol Performances Ever
1. Kelly Clarkson- Stuff Like that there
2. Adam Lambert- Mad World
3. David Archuleta- Imagiane
4. Allison Iraheta- Papa was a Rolling Stone and Crybaby
5. Carrie Underwood- Alone
Definitely Kris Allen's ANS.
That is the week I "fell in love with him" so to speak and he was my favorite from then on. Still love that performance 2 years later. Have yet to see this kind of creativity in the new Top 9!
I voted for Casey James - Jealous Guy. I have watched all seasons without a song ever affecting me the way this one did!
