'American Idol': Tom Hanks, Jennifer Hudson react to Pia Toscano's elimination
Pia Toscano -- who had been one of only three women left in "Idol" contention -- was voted off last night in a shocking turn of events that upset fans at the live taping, across America and on Twitter, where fans vented their outrage. Oh, and those fans include some heavy hitters. For instance, Tom Hanks, who tweeted "Don't have an IDOL habit, but how could the USA vote Pia off? I may be done for the season! HANX."
"Jersey Shore's" Snooki agreed, tweeting: "Pia should have won the whole thing! I'm not watchin Idol anuymore. I'm with JLO on this one..."
Ashton Kutcher, also on Pia's side: "Who are the people that vote on 'American Idol'? That's just crazy! That Pia girl is dope."
Former "Idol" contestant and bona fide star Jennifer Hudson was equally miffed: "I can not believe they just eliminated Pia!. Really???? Long as she walked away with that voice she will be alright!! Just hate to see talent like that go!" (And Hudson should know. Although she didn't win the competition herself, she's arguably "Idol's" most successful alumna.)
One-season "Idol" judge Ellen DeGeneres also weighed in, telling her followers she was "shocked and sad" after Pia's elimination.

Pia was the one I was most afraid that the stupid public was going to vote for Idol. Thou balladeers usually go in final 3 or 4 we have seen before a good ballad in the final weeks can lead to a win.
She was claiming to the public that she was going to sing up tempo and as soon as it started i'm like "This is up Tempo?". Straight up she disappointed the public so was voted out.
The girl didn't die. She has a beautiful voice she will be alright. As long as it is American Idol the USA has all rights to vote who they want to vote for. All the whiners just need to accept that. I liked her the most , but I also am smart enough to understand everyone has a right to their opinion and also there right to choose who they vote for even on American Idol.
why are there more people worried about AI and Pia going home than more important things like the government shutting down, military not getting paid, people going hungry, people losing their homes, child abuse, domestic abuse, etc....WTH?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Good point, Anita! Pia will do fine in "the real world". She has a great voice but needs some character. A little humility will help her. I'm sure there will be record deals coming her way anyway. I agree with Roger. I thought the same thing about the tempo. She didn't do that song justice by turning in another sleepy performance.
How is Jennifer Hudson "arguably Idol's most successful alumna"? Because she won an Oscar? C'mon ... that's ridiculous. Carrie and Kelly are so far ahead of her, especially considering it is a singing competition, not an acting one.
Can anyone tell me when was the last time a girl won AI???
Roger, pickles, Anita and Jeff -- thanks for the most reasonable comments I've read to this point. And yes, Anita, we'd all be better off if people put their outrage about things like AI to use on more substantial issues.
Well as long as we have this current do nothing President and 2 parties who do not know how to work together, there is not much we in the real world can do. So shows like AI are a nice distraction. BTW why are you people here on this site if those real world problems are bothering you so much?
Remember - there is the "vote for the worst" group out there - so voting is skewed, as usual...
Watch - Paul will win! He's the worst - Remember Sanjaya - he lasted so long and he was terrible, due to the Vote for the Worst group - bunch of sickies
People just don't get it. America didn't vote her off because she's not good - they voted her off because they didn't care. How many balladeers are on the radio these days? We don't have Mariahs, Whitneys, or Celines dominating the charts anymore. We have Gaga, Ke$ha and Minaj instead. People don't want to hear a big voice singing pretty ballads.
AI has pumped out countless female "balladeers", and none of them have been successful, except J-Hud, and she didn't do it with her singing career. Clarkson and Underwood hit it big by finding a niche, not by belting out ballads.
Seriously, this wasn't shocking at all.
