'American Idol': Lauren Alaina takes on Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb'
Well, having the mentor completely bash the song's original artist probably won't help any contestant secure votes.
Lauren Alaina performing Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" on "American Idol" seemed like the perfect match... until it actually happened.
Don't get us wrong, we think Lauren did a fine job with the song, but did she really do anything different or improve it any way? Not really.
In her pre-performance package, we were immediately put off when Jimmy Iovine tells her, "You are a much stronger singer than Miley Cyrus." We're assuming a lot of Cyrus' fanbase watches "Idol" so it's probably not smart to piss them off before the girl even sings. Luckily, Lauren seemed uncomfortable with Iovine saying that. "I was like, 'No, don't talk like that!'" Iovine went on to annoy us even further by telling her to use the song to steal last week's eliminated contestant Pia Toscano's fans. WHAT?! There's giving advice and then there's being a jerk, you know?
After her performance, the judges showered Lauren with praise, especially Steven Tyler who told her he thinks she's The Idol. Well, we think he did. It's hard to understand what he's actually saying most of the time. Jennifer Lopez said, "I loved hearing you sing that. You don't need to steal anyone's votes. You're getting plenty on your own." Randy Jackson called her performance "amazing."

Sorry, but wow, you're clueless regarding talent. geez. Lauren sounded AMAZING on that tune, and is a million times better than Miley Cyrus.
Send the producer home!
I'm not a fan of Miley, but... I thought Jimmy's comments were perfectly fine, and they didn't turn me off at all (maybe because I'm not a Miley fan). As for Lauren's performance, it was BY FAR the best of the night.
If you really think about it, Jimmy Lovine is just saying how it is in the business. Do you really think the rest of the idols are really THAT sad Pia left? Now that their odds are better to win?
That aside, Lauren has a nice Carrie-Underwood-esque voice, but i agree, nothing different. Put some rock n' roll Lauren Alaina on that song!
it's OK Miley's better :-)She did good
Miley's version is better and more heartfelt.
It'sa very hard song to sing requiring a strong voice and the ability to reach the high notes without shortness of breath.s.. Both singers IMHO are of similar quality but but the song needs someone better still.Sounds crazy but a young Barbra Streisand might be what's needed.
Lauren is was better than Miley, but NOT AMAZING. She was good. They over hyped her as usual. The only amazing performance was Durbin's. Pia's fans are not likely to go country girl and probably will drift away since there is no one else to belt those balads.
Joe McElderry, X-factor's winner from 2009, did the best interpretation I've heard. I'd never heard the song before; he made me all in love with it - and with "the climb". The way he sang, contrasting "lose" and "the climb" gave meaning to the song that, as much as I love Alaina and her voice, her interpretation missed.
A must see on YouTube.
Her version was good, but Miley's is way BETTER!!! She really doesn't have Miley's strong voice but she tried. of course, the comments dont offend me but she does not have a better voice than Miley. Jus saying:)
