'American Idol': Casey Abrams' 'Nature Boy' gets a standing ovation

casey-abrams-nature-boy.jpgMoving straight to the top of our "people to never listen to" list: Jimmy Iovine.

The "American Idol" mentor was firmly against Casey Abrams' decision to sing Nat King Cole's "Nature Boy" during the April 13 performance episode. And though Abrams briefly flirting with dropping the tune for Phil Collins, he stuck to his guns.

He's probably pretty glad he did, because the judges all but hemorrhaged praise for his soft, jazzy rendition of the song -- complete with what we think might be the first contestant-strummed upright bass in live "Idol" history.

After rising to their feet and begging for an encore, all three of them lavished Abrams with comparisons to successful genre artists like Norah Jones and Michael Bublé.

Randy Jackson called him a "true artist," noting that the show has never seen anyone like him, for the umpteenth time this season.

We liked it, but we were still in our chair when it was over. Maybe something got lost in the airwaves?

Casey's performance was sheer genius. Brilliant!

That second to last run was magical

It wasn't lost in your airwaves, you just don't understand or appreciate amazing music. His scales and use of minors is beyond the American's ability to appreciate what music truly is, an art.

Listened to the audio only and it wasn't great. At all.

He had a couple good notes but the whole thing was kind of...unimpressive.

This is one MAJOR cool cat..All smoothy, jazzy unique and so much raw talent, hard to believe Casey's 19. A Brilliant badass dude.

I thought Casey's performance was horrid...and the judges went waaay overboard praising it.

You know someone stinks when their fans use the old "the rest of you are too stupid to understand his genius" Call me stupid, but Casey can't sing and is a novelty act....just imagine a whole album of him....yikes!

Casey is a sideshow and does not belong with the rest of the group. I may not be able to understand his use of "minors" but I can hear, and he can't sing and gives me the creeps.
