ACM Awards 2011: Bethany Hamilton presents with AnnaSophia Robb
When you look at the ordeal that surfer Bethany Hamilton endured, it makes a self-congratulatory awards show seem pretty silly. Still, we're glad that she's had the chance to get all glammed up and get the recognition she deserves now that "Soul Surfer" is premiering.
Hamilton, who has surfed competitively since childhood, was attacked by a shark in 2003. It ate her arm... but she got back on a surfboard, fearlessly, less than a month after the attack. Her experience is the inspiration for the new film "Soul Surfer," in which she's played by AnnaSophia Robb.
Hamilton did a lot of the surfing stunts for Robb in the film, for shots in which it would've been too difficult to digitally remove Robb's arm.
The girls got together on Sunday night to introduce their co-star Carrie Underwood at the ACM Awards in Vegas. Underwood was later seen in a promo for the film, in which she discussed Hamilton's religious faith. "I didn't know how much faith she had until I got into learning about her," Underwood says. "You genuinely get the feeling like she wouldn't change a thing. I think it's going to be impossible not to be impacted [by the film]."
