ABC has announced they are canceling two of their daytime soap operas "One Life to Live" and "All My Children." Daytime Confidential first reported news of the cancellations in February.

"'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' are iconic pieces of television that have made an indelible mark on our culture's history," says Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney ABC/Television Group, in a statement. "Each of the shows has touched millions and millions of viewers and informed the social consciousness. It has been a privilege to work with the extraordinary teams who brought the residents of Pine Valley and Llanview to life each day, and we thank the cast, crew, producers and most especially the fans for their commitment to the shows through their history."

Frons insists each show will end in a manner that will respect their legacies and honor their passionate audiences."All My Children" will end in September 2011 while "One Life to Live" will finish its run in January 2012. Soap opera fans can at least find a bit of solace in this news: "General Hospital" will remain on the air.

"More than 40 years ago, Agnes Nixon created both the worlds of 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live,' worlds that the rest of us have been privileged to live in," said Frons. "Her shows led the way forward, breaking a lot of rules along the way to defy expectations about what soaps can do and the issues they can cover. I am honored to have worked with her."

"All My Children" premiered on January 5, 1970 and has received more than 30 Emmy Awards. "One Life to Live" debuted on July 15, 1968, and received its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2002.

I have watched AMC since its first show... and the sam with One Life to Live and General Hospital. I have always been an ABC fan and followed when it became Disney owned.
How can you do this --- $ $ $ is that the importance over a loyal fans enjoyment. What will Disney do next "fire" Mickey Mouse ? ? I will NOT watch any show that ABC puts in its place.... and I will stop going to Disney -- I usually go 3 times a year and didn't miss one soap opera weekend.....where we spent lots of money.

I hope you enjoy your success -- put some reality shows on --- you can put the life of Frons and how you crept up to your status.... not this way.... I hope you enjoy the fall ! ! !

My user name says it all!

Worst TV news ever! ABC--what are you thinking?! More talk shows? Fantastic. Say good-bye to ANY ratings.

My user name says it all!

NO, NO, & NO!
Please no more talk shows! No more doctor shows! Let us have our family we have been with for 30+ years! NO!

Seriously, Barbara? The landscape of TV and viewership is changing. Soaps aren't money makers anymore because people aren't watching them like they used to. In case you didn't know, a few other soap operas have already gone under, and now you want to boycott Disney because they don't want to lose money anymore? Obviously you're not someone who runs a business.

My mother will be crushed. She is an avid AMC fan. I'll have to convince her to watch Y&R like me, now.

anyone who is a soap opera watcher is going to be MAD as hell. No, we all knew AMC's ratings weren't that good. They just replaced the head writer, but that wasn't enough because Frons had been planning to cancel the shows for a while now. the fans will not be watching whatever CRAP ABC puts on in their place.

HUGE mistake ABC, huge. I'm not a fan of either but I watch General Hospital and I'm worried sick. Have we not seen the power of women? This will not being going over well moron decision makers...

Funny, they keep General Hospital, which is the worst of the bunch. Not a fan of ABC soaps, but this is really a sad day for soaps.
