'White Collar' season finale: Did Neal con Peter?

neal-peter-white-collar-season-finale.jpgA lot of questions were answered concerning the seasons-long mysteries on "White Collar." We found out the full story of the music box, the fractal, the U-boat, Vincent Adler, Alex - but at the expense of the heart of the show.

We're not criticizing, mind you. Just like any good romance (bromance, in this case), there needs to be drama to keep things fresh and interesting. But it hurts to see the trust built up between Peter and Neal go up in flames, especially in the wake of the quiet little moment they had when they were cutting the TNT wires on the boat.

Who do you think stole the treasure and put it away for Neal? Has to be Alex, right? Though we have complete faith in this show to make it something more complex than that. And we hope this isn't the last we've seen of Alex - we can't let Neal's non-Peter romances get too comfy either.

Thoughts & Tidbits
  • The Peter/Elle marriage continues to be one of the best relationships on TV today. They are just wonderful together and it's quite a testament to Tim DeKay and Tiffani Thiessen that the chemistry is so natural.
  • Loved the little "Keyser Soze" moment Peter had, seeing Neal's painting and then flashing back to the apartment. Neal also sings in a barbershop quartet in Skokie, Illinois.
  • Who do you prefer Neal with, Sarah or Alex? We're on the fence.

I like Alex better than Sarah but Neal is meant for Peter.

Sara **

I like her a lot better for Neal, because she offers something to him that Alex never could: the option to have a family, which he so clearly wants. She provides the Peter and El lifestyle, which Neal clearly wanted with Kate. Plus, Sara and Neal have wonderful chemistry. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them built up next season.

Kate, gotta be Kate

Neal's Dad is ultimately going to be the bad guy before this show ends.

team alex!! sara is far too laid back for him. she doesnt have the life on the edge that Neal needs to share with someone, *ahem*, like Alex. i think that Neal is LETTING himself to fall for Sara because it is a change from his past. and we all can vouche that such breaks are necessary once in a while, right? but its not what hes used to. a reserved girl who isnt involved at all in his line of work. its too far of a strech. i think the reason the show is going to be adding in sara is because she is the temporary flame, and alex will be the permanent one. sadly, this means a little while longer without alex and a little longer with a chemistry-less insurance agent. but as long as he ends up with alex in the end, its ok

The seams were showing on this episode, as things just got too downright implausible.

Just how many people on the show are related to a doomed U-boat sailor?

Who rigged the explosives from the inside of said doomed U-boat, by the way, thereby causing such trouble tonight--you know, the kind of trouble where you cut the wires to the explosive before you enter the code disabling the wires?

And how exactly did the insurance investigator find out a lost U-boat was what the villain was searching for? Show us, don't merely tell us.

Lastly, surely, Shirley, there was an easier way to locate the sub than to build an elaborate, one-of-a-kind music box that Alex had difficulty hanging on to much less locating or even figuring out?

All this, merely for another hokey cliffhanger / con?

Sara for sure!! Hilarie Burton and Matt Bomer have amazing chemistry together!!

While I watch the show every week, one of my main problems with it is that the main story moved along so slowly. It took them 2 yrs to find the music box and then they went the other extreme and went from music box -> fractal -> u-boat -> finding the u-boat -> opening it -> finding the art in like a week.

As the author indicated, this was the main story line of the show.

Obviously Neal didn't con Peter. He didn't write himself the card.

Neal did not con Peter, but he most certainly knows who did.

Why in the world is this only a 1/4 year show!!!!! A full year show like all other shows would be great are the actors that gready?? This is 2 years now. What is going on, it is very very difficult to follow something so good that lasts so so so so short of time. Very very BAD!
