Pilot Season: TV of Tomorrow
Tricia Helfer confirms '17th Precinct' is a 'Battlestar Galactica' love-fest
It's hard to get excited about pilots. They tease us with their unfamiliar premises and actors we long to see (back) on TV, but by May, most of them are just a memory.
"Battlestar Galactica" devotees are probably hoping the outlook is more optimistic for "17th Precinct," the fantasy procedural that "BSG" co-creator Ronald D. Moore is cooking up at NBC. The pilot has already landed leads in three "BSG" alums (Tricia Helfer, James Callis and Jamie Bamber), and Helfer is working that to their advantage.
The actress tweets the above photo from set, saying, "Here ya go #BSG peeps. 6, Baltar, Apollo. Aka Morgana, John, Caolan."
"17th Precinct," for those not up to speed, is a twist on the classic cop show, with the crimes set in a fantasy world where magic and mythical creatures are real. Helfer plays necromancer "Morgana" (who presumably speaks with dead victims in lieu of examining their bodies, Callis plays homicide detective "John" and Bamber tackles the crime scene expert "Caolan."
It's obviously still very early in the game, but forgive us if this image and the prospect of these three solving magic murders every week doesn't warm our heart a few extra degrees.

They need to add Doc Cottle as the crusty old ME, Eddie Olmos as the hard-as-nails Captain and a love interest of Katee Sakhoff for Caolan and it'd be perfect
WOW - such a Treat for BSG Fans. I didnt know Jamie Bamber was British, until I saw him on the Law & Order - UK series. Maybe because he did not speak with a British accent on BSG... Anyhoe, will give THIS show a try to see how good it is - but WHEN is it going to be on..?????
Wish I could be enthusiastic about this, but given the way people ignored The Cape, or were instantly turned off by it, this show better be a classic of MASH proportions if it hopes to survive past 6 episodes. Not meaning to sound pessimistic, but considering the failure rate of these types of shows on American TV, I can't be blamed. I wish this was being made by the BBC or a cable network so it stood a chance of survival.
Please get Jane Espensen on board as a writer again Ron - she is great at this genre - and maybe you can get past the NBC destroying niche shows before they even develop fan bases.
I hate to break it to you but the cape was cliche and poorly written. So comparing that show to the apathy of viewers is not a valid arguement.
I LOVE BSG and the cast! I would watch this show even without them....but thats me. Remember century city? that futureistic law show? Yea, didnt think so.
There is no way NBC with its middle fo the road tv lineup would go for a show like this. Unfortunately most of the major networks have little imagination or guts. I would prefer this show air on the Sci Fi Newtwork anyway because it wouldnt get much traction on regular tv. I myself would love to see this show succeed. In an era where great shows like Battlestar Galactica are a rarity, something like this gives me reason to be optimistic.
