Parker Posey to guest star in 'The Big C'; 'American Idol' EP sells game show pilot to CBS
In Thursday's (March 31) batch of TV Snacks, we have old friends making new deals and a British favorite that will soon have an American twin.
Indie film queen Parker Posey (who we fell in love with when we saw "Party Girl") is guest starring on the next season of Showtime's "The Big C." She'll play a four-episode arc as Poppy, an older woman who develops an unlikely relationship with Cathy's (Laura Linney) teenaged son, Adam (Gabriel Basso). Also, Brit actor Hugh Dancy ("Black Hawk Down") has signed on for six episodes as Lee, a charming cancer patient who, after a rocky start, befriends Cathy during their time in an experimental drug trial. In other "Big C" related news, its exec producer/ showrunner, Jenny Bicks, has signed on to a two-year, seven figure deal with Sony Pictures Television. Bicks, the former EP for "Sex and the City" also has several feature films in the hopper. [Deadline]
CBS has ordered a game show pilot from "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance" creator Nigel Lythgoe. "Secret Fortune" has contestants choosing from 24 sealed envelopes with checks in varying dollar amounts. By the end of the game, contestants are left with only one envelope and whatever fortune it contains. [Deadline]
MTV is continuing its trend toward scripted shows with a greenlight for 12 episodes of an adaptation of the British hit "Inbetweeners." It has also picked up four reality shows, including a dating show called "FriendZone" from the producers of "Jersey Shore" and an advice show for college students called "Savage U" featuring openly gay syndicated columnist, Dan Savage. Wait...24 sealed envelopes...wasn't there a game show with briefcases that was essentially the same thing? Seems like I saw promos for it while watching another show.
