PaleyFest 2011: 'True Blood's' Alexander Skarsgard reveals Eric's fate in S4

Creator and executive producer, Alan Ball, brought the whole cast of "True Blood" out for Day 2 of PaleyFest and we have the loss of hearing to prove it. We had heard legends of the Truebie scream before, but it's nothing compared to experiencing it.
We felt a little bad when one of the moderators asked who was Team Bill and who was Team Eric and it was clear by the screaming that Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) was the clear winner. The tribe had clearly and loudly spoken. And Skarsgard paid the crowd back in some pretty great details on his character in Season 4 -- in fact, it seemed he was the only one who could (or would).
First, he confirmed the amnesia. "He doesn't know who he is," Skarsgard reveals. "So, like a thousand years of resentment of humanity is gone. He's very innocent. So, Eric needs help."
Of course, this would lead fans to believe that the events of Charlaine Harris' Book 4 of the Sookie Stackhouse series will come to fruition. In that book, Sookie finds Eric on the side of the road with no knowledge of who he is. That blossoms into an intense romantic relationship as she becomes his caretaker.
Well, that's the books. When moderator, TV Guide's editor-in-chief Debra Birnbaum, asked Skarsgard point blank if Sookie will be the one to help him, he skirts the issue a bit.
"There are a lot of friendly people in Bon Temps," he answers. "Kind enough to help Eric."

He then says that "Pam is obviously very helpful, the loyalty of my lovely daughter." And an "awwwww" spread among the crowd. "I'm just trying to make her cry," he jokes.
"What we're doing now is so different, this powerful character is just gone," Skarsgard explains. "What we built up over the last three years is just gone... It's so polar opposite of who Eric really is. You kind of sense that there's some vulnerability... He is lost."
So, who is behind Eric's sudden amnesia? Skarsgard only says, "He messed with the wrong people."
Later, when Anna Paquin is doing her best to deflect the question of whether Sookie will act on her attraction to Eric next season, Skarsgard mouths, "It happens."
Did we mention HBO released the following Season 4 sneak peek right before the panel?
What do you think of the developments for Eric next season?

Eric losing his memory is my favorite plotline from the books. I'm really looking forward to seeing it played out on the show.
