'Nikita's' Maggie Q talks 'Buffy,' 'Alias' comparisons

maggie-q-emmy.jpgMaggie Q smolders on the cover of the current issue of "Emmy" magazine, hitting newsstands on April 5. Our favorite heroine discusses the comparisons between the CW's "Nikita" and the other female-centric action shows that have come before it.

"I think we've evolved in the genre since 'Buffy' and 'Alias,'" she says, referring to some of the stunts and more dangerous sequences that have made "Nikita" a success. "I remember seeing bad wigs on doubles. Then they cut to a closeup, then there's a wide shot and you know the actress is not doing it."

Maggie does her own action work, which contributes to the quality of the finished product. "When I fight, you're right there in our faces, very Bourne. You expect that from that caliber [of film], so why wouldn't you expect it on TV?" she says.

When Maggie was cast as Nikita, she became the first Asian actress with a lead role in a broadcast television drama. If that surprises you, you're not alone -- Maggie herself was shocked that no one had come before her. "It was a mixed moment of 'Wow! What? How come this hasn't happened yet?'" she tells the mag. "But what really thrills me is that it's going to be exciting for other people, for everyone after me. Once it was said, 'They aren't hiring minorities in this capacity.' Guess what? Now they are."

Shame on her for bad mouthing Alias. Nikita is nowhere near as badass as Alias. It's a cool show, but it's no Alias. I like Maggie Q but she's not Jennifer Garner.

I love that Maggie Q does her own stunts it def is more "in your face" as she put it :) & I adore that. Love Nikita & can't wait for the next episode!

The worst was "Buffy" because Sarah Michelle Gellar was so tiny and her stunt double wasn't plus the wigs on the doubles were awful. Loved "Buffy", but the stunt double work was as noticable as the original "Star Trek".

Holy moley! Stephen S please reread Ms. Q's comments before breaking out the haterade. Maggie did not badmouth Alias as a show nor did she slag Jennifer Garner. Ms. Q was making a comparison between the technical merits of the stunt work on Alias vs. Nikita and nothing more.

Yeah, all she is saying here is that she's doing her own stunts while Gellar and Garner did not do as many of their own.

Which ... is 100% accurate.

"Buffy" in particular had huge issues of obvious stunt-people, especially after they lost Sophia Crawford.

Jennifer did some of her own stunts, she was hired in part due to her past as a dancer. And regardless, the writing, acting, and all around greatness of Alias and Buffy put Nikita to absolute shame.

I love Maggie Q so much because of her amazingness. The stunts are just flawless. The cast works so hard. The fight sequences are just truly terrific.
Big fan of both Buffy and Alias but she's right. Not as an insult, it wasn't meant it that way, but Nikita stepped it up with their combat scenes. I appreciate it. When you see doubles it kills the allusion. Nikita never does.
