MTV 'Skins' finale: Something to shout about?

OK, so we have to admit we like a random music number now and again. But, that's pretty much all we liked about the "Skins" finale.

In the finale, we watched as the crew sorted out their various romantic entanglements over a season that saw them go from a tight-knit crew to a fractured one. Tony's (James Newman) sister Eura (Eleanor Zichy) took center stage in this episode by faking her own abduction in order to get her brother and friends to reunite.

The series fought several battles before it even premiered. First, fans of the UK version had very little hope that the show could capture the magic of the original and they were right. Then, the Parents Television Council targeted the series for its extreme amount of references to underage drinking, drugs and sexuality and we'd have to say they were wrong.

The real test came when all the hype died down and all we were left with was what appeared on our TV sets every week. And then the viewers stopped showing up. That's not exactly true. From the season premiere's three million viewers, the series held on to a little over a million viewers a week.

So, here we are. Season 1 is over and all its cards have been dealt. What's your final decision on the show? Do you think MTV should bring it back for another season? Go ahead, let it all out below!

I stopped watching after the 5th episode ("Stanley"). It just got boring, and no matter what crazy teenage s**t they did, they just couldn't keep me interested. I wanted to give the show a fair chance to prove itself, and I tried really hard to like it, but it just wasn't a good show. You can only watch so much teen angst, arguing, sex, drugs & drinking until you ask yourself: "Okay, what else is there?" Give me a reason to tune in every night. I don't want to watch basically the same situations over and over again, just with a different character each time.

as an American, and a big fan of the UK version, I was under a pretty sincere impression that the show wouldnt work in America. The culture would be too different, little things like the drinking age (being 17 in a club/bar for 18 year olds is a much bigger stretch than being 17 and in a club for 21 year olds).

the season premiere didnt give me much hope as it seemed to be a complete washover of lesser quality.

However, I decided to continue watching as the season progressed on, and it was actually the significant changes that made me appreciate the show more.

the idea that maxxies character would be a girl(tea), and instead have a conflict of abbud being in love with her was a great change. Another great add in was Tina. we never really got to see her point of view from the UK series. It was a great addition.

as far as the viewers/statistics go, I work every monday night until ten. Tonight (the finale) was the first time i actually watched it on tv. Every other time i watched it on tuesday on the MTV website.

some parts could have definitely been written better, but the show has huge potential for growth. It would be a sincere shame if it didnt get a second season to show where they could go with it.

SKins is sooooo dope. No matter what all the parents say. Thats what we do. its our channel not the parents. MTV is for teens and back then MTV was for teens and that was there generation....this is our generation! Grow up.

I thought it started off poorly but got better as the season progressed. Last week's episode (Tina) was actually pretty good, but I was a bit disappointed w/ the finale. Still, I think it should and might be renewed. RJ Berger got worse ratings (less than a million viewers) and was still given a second season. It also seems like a cheap show to produce, but I guess the lack of advertisers might play into the decision. I hope they bring it back, if only to stick it to the PTC.

whats the name of the song thats played last?

I really liked the UK version, but I have to admit after watching season #1, I really like the US version too. Its a good show. Really good acting, awesome story lines with current culture and problems. I disagree the finale was bad. Stans version of "Shout" was awesome and could be a #1 video on MTV on its own merits. I think the show has a good following and will have a very sucessful run. Although I miss Maxie from the UK version, Stan the man makes up for it. You are awesome Stan (Daniel). 4.9 stars from this viewer. Keep up the good work.

I've watched the UK version. I like the MTV version better. I hope it get renewed.

I like the show and compared to other shows out there it has better twist and turns. ratings dont mean a good either for example jersey shore. at least skins has a message in every episode. season 2 plz

ps you can find at the songs in an episode at mtv.com heres link

Season 2 of skins was by far better than the first. I hope it gets renewed so they can do all the story lines for that.

@Delvoire If you're suggesting that Season 2 be a remake of the UK's Season 2, maybe that's the problem. I lost interest after the first episode, but if the first season was basically just cut-and-pasted scripts from the UK version as that post implies, maybe that's why the show hasn't caught on?
