'Hannah Montana's' alternate ending: Miley Cyrus and Disney go meta!
Taking a cue from shows like "Community" and "Supernatural," Disney decided to taste a piece of the meta pie. Their guinea pig? The "Hannah Montana" series finale. So how did it work out? Well, the meta ending ultimately wasn't used when the finale aired on Jan. 16, but it is featured in the extras of the "Hannah Montana: Forever" Disney DVD (and now, YouTube). Even we have to admit that it's kind of confusing.
The scene cuts from Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) and her best friend Lilly (Emily Osment) hugging goodbye at the airport to a little girl playing with a doll (singing a song about Miley Cyrus becoming a rock star). It turns out, it's 6 year-old Miley Cyrus. Yes, Miley Cyrus, not Stewart.
It gets weirder. Soon, Cyrus' real-life parents Billy Ray and Tish come in to put her to bed. Obviously, Billy Ray has played her father, Robby-Ray, throughout the entire series, but Tish never played her mother: Brooke Shields did.
When they tuck her into bed, she says she's going to be a big star one day just like her daddy. Our guess? It's supposed to be that Hannah Montana was a dream Cyrus had when she was little and all the characters were just made up.
Remember when everyone thought that's how "Lost" would end -- it was all a dream? Pretty trippy for the Disney Channel, right?
We're pretty sure Disney's target demographic would have been thoroughly confused by this ending. What do you think of the alternate ending?

I don't think that implied it was a dream. It said 12 years earlier...if it were a dream the kid could just wake up....it would be the "present"
It's kind of nice, except for the fact that now her parents are divorcing and she is now estranged from her Dad because of the damage this show did to their family... other than that, such a cute Disney ending!

Miss "Forgiveness & Love" is NOT estranged from her father! I'm positive she will be with her father on Thanksgiving if she isn't on tour, or making a movie. Or maybe they break movies early for Thanksgiving.

I think this ending is WAY better than the one they used. The going off to college ending was just too
"cliched" and "generic" in my book.
Here, Disney gave us a shocking twist "Dallas" and/or "Newhart" type "It was All a Fantasy" type of finale.
It's a shame that Disney used the run of the mill ending.
I really like this ending...I like it better than the one they chose to use.
Yeah, what the hell is that? I thought Miley's TV mom was supposed to be Brooke Shield?
Not that I liked the Miley-and-Lily-forever ending. I thought it was better when Lily went to college while Miley stayed in Paris. Sometimes you just have to move on.
