Eliza Dushku could be returning to television -- in a role some might find surprising for the actress who made a name for herself on sci-fi dramas.

Dushku Mar. 23, via her Facebook page, that she's been cast in a comedy pilot for CBS.

"It is with insanest excitement & awesomeness I get to finally fill you guys in," she writes. "I've JUST landed a new CBS comedy pilot w/ my comic idol Mr. Damon Wayans! Stay tuned, there is a serious happy dance occurring at the moment ;) xx!"

The Wayans project in question, according to Deadline, is a multi-camera sitcom set in a sports radio station. It's inspired by ESPN personality Colin Cowherd, and "Grounded For Life" creators Bill Martin and Mike Schiff are behind the project.

Dushku appeared in a 2010 episode of CBS sitcom "Big Bang Theory," but most fans are more familiar with her work on "Tru Calling," "Dollhouse" and, of course, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." (Fellow "Buffy" star Sarah Michelle Gellar is currently working on her own CBS pilot, "Ringer.")

This isn't the first time we've heard Dushku's name during pilot season. She was briefly attached to TNT's "Bird Dog," before dropping out. And it's a good thing. TNT just passed on the project.

Based on the excerpts from Deadspin, it looks like a new low. Sexist, unnecessarily rude and devoid of humor. I guess Dusku is playing the sexy sidekick to the radio host.

I love her and I will watch for sure if it goes to series!!!!!! but she wasnt that good on the big bang theory!! I wonder if she will be good in this!!

@Ed -- the good news is that it sounds like they've captured Colin Cowherd perfectly.

So uber-bad-actress Elize Dushku gets yet one more shot at a TV show...

How long can it be until network executives realize she can't act?

It's two very bad choices for CBS this pilot season with Sarah Michelle Gellar being the LOLROTF pick for most absurd casting of the year.

@Rena

I agree, I'm a huge Buffy/Angel fan but what made both Eliza and SMG great in those shows was the ensemble surrounding them. Alone, they are barely passable. You want someone from the Buffyverse to get a show? Give Amy Acker a decent role. The woman is amazing!

She was great in Bring It On, Ugly Betty, That 70's Show, and Big Bang Theory. She has lots of experience in lighter fare.

It should be a fun show.
