'Big Love' finale ends in death: Watch the final moments and weigh in
Sunday's "Big Love" finale concluded with a change: its theme song, the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows," was re-recorded by the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines. The choice to have the song sung by a woman -- with the iconic lyrics, God only knows what I'd be without you -- became particularly poignant as the events unfolded.Spoiler alert: After a surprisingly successful launch of a new church, Bill Hendrickson is shot and killed by a disgruntled neighbor. The family that he leaves behind is in a state of transition, as Barb seeks female empowerment, Margene considers a long trip to South Africa, and Nicki clings to the roots of tradition.
As so often happens on television, the death is followed by a celebration of life: Sarah and Scott's baby is christened in Bill's church. "It breaks my heart that Bill can't see this," Margene says, sporting a new look and, more importantly, a new outlook. We then cut to a touching shot of Bill, watching from his usual place at the kitchen table.
What did you think of the sister wives being left husbandless in the final scenes of "Big Love"? Weigh in below on the series finale.

Did you even WATCH the show? It did NOT begin with God Only Knows - it ENDED with it. I knew it was coming because I had seen the announcement last week on Zaptoit.
Evidently you, the reviewer, saw that too - but missed the beginning of last night's show.
HBO spent five seasons telling the story of this marriage, showing us this is a real loving, committed family where women can be free and strong... so why did they think they needed to kill Bill to prove that point at the end? Either they don't trust their writers to tell the story or they don't trust their viewers to get it. Either way, his death was pointless and tacky and achieved nothing except turning me off the whole series, if not HBO altogether.
I loved this show and I'm sad to see it end - especially the way that it did. Of all the enemies Bill has made over the years he is killed by his neighbor??? Hello? While I loved all the wives (even Nikki!) I am left wondering what happens to them? Is Barb running Bill's church now? Is she a priesthood holder? How are they supporting themselves since they lost HomePlus? How could Margene pack up and leave her kids so soon after Bill died? She had obviously done it before (her second trip) - bizarre. And Nikki is just....there. Very disappointing ending IMO. I would have loved to see it end with a happy ending...them building a new life together. You blew it HBO.
WOW! I just saw the finale and I was NOT expecting Bill to die! I thought that his mother was the death that was being talked about! Sad to see it go but at least the family that we grew to love over 5 seasons is still watched overby their patriarch!
Well if they do a reunion movie, it will be in heaven. It was a great show, and Bills speech to the Senate was a great endorsement of the what the Mormon's have done to enhance civilization. I think Bill's murder was biblically inspired. And the wrap up scene at the end while rushed emphasized Bill's Big Love.
This article deserves to be pulled, or at least rewritten by someone who actually knows what the heck they're talking about. The zap in zap2it obviously means zap past the non-existent fact checkers.
i started crying when Bill asked Barb to bless him---although i don't like how it took his death to realize she was capable of blessings and i didn't like how she decided not to baptised.
Ummmmm, Margene went to CENTRAL AMERICA not South Africa! Please watch the show in it's entirety before writing a recap.
You are right the show DID CONCLUDE with change and the song sung by Natalie Maines.
And it was a GREAT ending and Series Finale.
I was wondering about 40 minutes in how they were going to tie all of these stories up or at least give them some kind of satisfying closure .
Well Bill & Lois's death and the final scenes with the wives did all of that.
i think all and all it was BORING i have watched from day one and was really let down by the last show , i expected way more excitement and felt the show started going down hill when the writers decided to get politics involved.
