'American Idol's' Paul McDonald apologizes for wearing military garb
Sure, "American Idol" contestant Paul McDonald's performance of Ryan Adam's "Come Pick Me Up" got people talking, but it was his wardrobe that had people debating after the Top 13 show aired on Wednesday, Mar. 9.McDonald wore the Marine Corps Dress Blues shirt during his performance, a move that unintentionally upset and angered a lot of people -- including Marines. Some, however, saw it as a sign of support or just a simple fashion statement. Here are some of the comments from a post on McDonald's performance:
From Proud Marine: "The privilege to wear the Marine Corps Dress Blues Jacket is earned. For Paul to wear it as he did, was an insult."
From Katie: "Paul meant no disrespect for the Marines. Military-like outfits have been the norm for fashion for many years. Consider the Navy sailor suit and Michael Jackson's military jacket. Just enjoy the music and let it soothe your troubled soul."
From SCC: "My family member was KIA in Iraq, he was buried in that jacket which is the United States Marine Corps dress blues. This touches a very emotional chord in hearts like mine, and I take offense."
From Opinion 2: "Many fashion designers use military uniforms as inspiration for their designs. Does that mean they are disrespectful? Its ridiculous. Its only an inspired coat, not the real thing anyways"
From Anonymous: "IF you know anything about that blouse you know how symbolic it is. If you take pride in being a Marine you would be offended. I sure as hell am. I worked hard to get that blouse, I earned it."
McDonald later took to his Twitter to apologize to anyone who felt disrespected by his wardrobe. "Just to let everyone know I have nothing but respect for our men and women in the armed forces," he tweeted. "Tons of respect for you guys."
He continued, "I've been told my jacket on the show upset some folks ... I wasn't trying to offend anyone. Sorry! I've got nothing but love for you guys!"

Oh my goodness, get over it weirdos. I swear, the things people get "offended" about... really, they have nothing going on in their own lives? Really? Live your own lives folks! It's a big beautiful world out there! Go find your own corner of it, I promise it's more fulfilling that getting worked up over nonsense that probably isn't even a deep seeded belief, but just a chance for you to feel like a good person. Grow up.
Oh god, the things people take offense to. I didn't even know it was military garb and I'm sure none of the other sane people, noticed it.
Here's a note to all you faux-uber-patriots: Enjoy the music and SHUT THE **** UP!!!
waa waa waa stfu you military people. its a freaking shirt. get over it. go back to your bed with your american flag blanket and american flag pillow covers with matching american flag bedsheet.
Guess people that make dog tags too should stop because regular people might wear those and offend people. People freak out over the dumbest things. If he was wearing a nazi outfit then get mad.
You people have obviously never served a day in the Marine Corps in your life, cause if you did you would know the pride and tradition and meaning behind that uniform. You would know how hard it is to earn that jacket and those uniforms. Your obviously to coward to even try, and if you have you obviously failed. Men and women in the Marine Corps do things everyday that your to scared to do. When was the last time you spent months even years away from your friends and family to defend the country that you obviously live in as well.
But we need to stfu right?
Get at me when you can do half the stuff we do.
Semper Fi.
Rah!
Seriously, how is it offensive? I swear people look for anything that they can cling to make themselves feel special. Get over it, whiners.
They took offense because they are a bunch of self-entitled beotches. Perhaps all Catholics should stop wearing crosses. They haven't bore the burden of Christ, have they? I don't recall any recent crucifixions. And geez, that useless 3rd backup for QB who never played a minute in a single game better stop wearing that letter on his jacket and disrespecting those who earned their them.
This is the craziest thing I have ever heard of.... People need to stop worrying about what other people do as long as it is not hurting people physically. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion but if you don't like something then don't watch it or leave it alone! Paul is a great musician... who cares what he wears!
He apologized to anyone that may have been offended... end of story. love his music and voice.
Stores should stop selling anything camo too because as you know military wear that too. *rolls eyes*
