'American Idol's' Casey Abrams: 'Your Song' makes him the comeback kid
You can tell everybody, Casey Abrams is back in the game. On last week's "American Idol" results show, the judges shocked Casey by saving him from elimination after a disappointing performance. This week, Casey wasn't going out without a fight. He even stopped by a barber shop for a significant beard trim... you know, just in case it was his facial hair that put him at the bottom of the barrel.
Choosing "Your Song" for Elton John week couldn't have been a better move for Casey. He went for a classic arrangement, choosing not to fix what definitely ain't broke. His sincere, earnest interpretation of the song won the judges over easily. Jennifer Lopez noted that she didn't lose an "ounce of sleep" over their decision to save Casey from elimination -- and tonight, he proved why.

This is the Casey I knew was there. Guy is back, and I'm glad for it.
Didn't doubt he had it in him. Just hoped he'd work through his issues, and he has.
Beautiful.
Such a joyful, joy-filled artist. So glad to see him back for another week!
Too many sharp and flat notes for me.
Didn't think he had it in him. He did
Scotty McCreepy (Howdy Doody) is really horrid, seriously, every dull song he spews sounds the same, exactly the same, boring, dull, mono tone drool. McDreary has no versatility, plays safe with every last dreary country rendition on every horrible, no talent, waste of time song he bores us with. Remember Taylor Nobody Hicks? some nowhere career he ended up with, McDreary is even worse! stop wasting our time. Then there's Rod Stewart boy, what is this guy trying to emulate!? he stinks! he's like a a bad lounge singer doing Rod Stewart doped on heroine, sad really sad. Then there is the guy who for some really strange reason got saved, he looks like Will Farrel in the hot tub skit on SNL, he is really awful, are the judges deaf? The reggae girl, she's got some talent but she thinks this is Rastafarian Idol, wrong country, wrong show honey, save the reggae for Jamaican Idol, this is American Idol.. Ok so the good, Pia is incredible, she is so pro already, can not even wait to see what she does beyond this ridiculous show, she is too good for this amateur hour, perfect pitch, perfect phrasing, timing, range, dynamics, the whole package. Stefano is really good, he just needs to chill some on certain songs, Haley has alot of potential but she is quirky, she needs to just stay loose and not over think her phrasing and timing and she will be fine. The rest all leave me lukewarm, don't really care about them much, well that's my two cents, I feel better now.
I thought it was in a key way too high for him and his voice sounded flat. Once he got into the soul at the very end, it quickly got off pitch. In my opinion, it was one of the weakest performances of the night and proved why he was voted off last week. This isn't the right type of contest for him.

For your info Taylor Hicks is doing very well. He is making millions are you?
Thia has very, very good pitch and will probably be voted off soon. Why? Because pitch doesn't make or break a singer.
Casey wasn't off pitch to me, and I wouldn't care if he was--he's got something unique about his singing voice that is compelling. He's got what Pia with all her perfect technique doesn't have--creativity, artistry and the uniqueness that will make her stand out from the crowd of other good but boring singers. I honestly don't remember her song or the way she sang it other than to think "oh lord, another ballad."
Casey isn't perfect, but he IS an artist that I hope will continue to improve on his talent. I think he lost his path for a while there, but then at least he was stepping out and taking risks which few others have done.
I will continue to vote for Casey for as long as he's on Idol. If he leaves before the finals, I'll probably just drift away and watch something else. I can hear the other contestants on my next cruise.
I honestly don't get why people are raving about Casey or like him so much. But I did find out something while this video was playing from tonight's performance... if you don't look at him, just listen, it improves things.
Again the only real good thing about this season is Steven Tyler as a judge and Pia (and sometimes Alaina).
