Zap2it on the scene: American Idol Top 13 party
'American Idol': Scotty McCreery to cover Taylor Swift?
Could "American Idol's" resident country boy Scotty McCreery be putting his own spin on one of Taylor Swift's songs during his run on FOX's hit show?Possibly. When Zap2it caught up with the 17-year-old at "Idol's" Top 13 party on Mar. 3, we ran the idea by him. Guess what? He didn't hate it.
"Maybe! Who knows? She's great, for sure! I might able to pull that out," he says.
We think he'd be able to pull it off, too. May we suggest "You Belong With Me," "Back To December," "Tell Me Why" or "The Story of Us"?
A lot of "Idol" viewers are wondering if McCreery will keep it all country, all the time throughout the competition, so we asked if he has any surprises in store for his fans. "I'm going to stay true to myself. I'm a country boy, but I might have some tricks up my sleeves," he says. "I might change it up here and there but for the most part, I want to stay true to who I am."
One thing you'll never see from McCreery? A cowboy hat. He tells us they just aren't his thing.
Would you like to see Scotty McCreery perform a Taylor Swift song on "Idol" or do you think it's too mainstream? Tell us what you think in the comments.

You could of asked what he thought about the possibility of covering Paula Abdul and he would've probably had the same answer. The worst part of the article though is the suggestion for the Taylor song to be Tell Me Why :-X
I want to see him do a Justin Beiber song
I think American Idol is a load of crap this year, the new guy, what's his name, has a filthy mouth, and acts crazy, and then there is ole, yo, yo, check it out baby, and this brings us to sweet Jen, who is as wishy washey as Paula ever though about, so, who gives a big rats tail about idol????
That wold be great, especially on the TOP 13 week (it's Taylor's lucky number) and it would help her with sales!
You asked him a question about Taylor Swift. He never said he was going to cover her.You could ask him if he was going to cover Miranda Lambert and you would get the same response.
This is the best American Idol season ever...Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, you bring so much energy to the show... couldn't of made a better choice...We love you...
Love Scotty...Great "country" voice...
I love Scotty. As far as I'm concerned he could sing any country song beautifully. His deep, rich voice, akin to Jason Scott, has an old time country sound that seems to be missing from most country singers today, albeit Randy Travis, who, the first time I ever heard him years ago, I knew instinctively would be a winner and be around for a long time. Whether he wins or loses, I believe Scotty will be around for a long time as well.
I agree that, without Simon, Idol is pure CRAP this year. It's on its last legs, much like "Pop Idol" in the U.K.; and, not unlike that show, it'll get eaten alive by Simon's new show, "The X Factor". THAT will be worth watching!
I disagree about the Simon "factor". I like it much better without him. As for Scotty, I think that kid will choose songs that really make him shine. He's got IT! Can't wait to see him on tour (with a cowboy hat)
He is without a ques. the best next to Carry. His country voice is real.As to the ques.will he win, thats yet to be sceene but he is a winner in my book.Go Scotty you are my hometown hero!!!
