'American Idol': James Durbin addresses the Adam Lambert comparisons
Surprising no one, 21-year-old rocker James Durbin advanced to "American Idol's" Top 13 on Thursday, Mar. 3.America was won over by James after hearing about his struggles with Tourette's and Asperger's. He kept their support coming with his consistently good performances, including "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" by Judas Priest during the Top 24 round.
From the beginning, James has reminded "Idol" viewers of Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert. Like Lambert, James has remarkable control and range and can also get a little screamy. Lambert even tweeted about James on Mar. 2, saying, "Durbin sounded bada** tonight! Lot more control! And while we both have a rock scream I think we're pretty different stylistically."
So we know what Lambert thinks of the comparisons, but how does James feel about being compared to one of show's most polarizing contestants ever?
"I'm my own person. He's his own person. We're completely different stylistically. He tweeted about me after my performance, I really appreciate it," James tells Zap2it at Idol's Top 13 Party. "But as far as comparisons, I'm James Durbin. All I'm going to be is James Durbin. I've never tried to be someone else. I'm never going to be somebody else."
He adds, "I appreciate everything he did for 'American Idol.' He put his foot in the door for people like me, but I'm here to put my foot through the door." Well said, James. Well said.

Here's one for you James...yet right Adam didn't just "open" the door. No one will ever fill his spot. You seem to think you are going to be bigger than Adam...dream on man..get in the real world.
I love Adam Lambert. I am a HUGH fan. There will never be another Adam, he is unique. That being said, James Durbin is very talented. He needs to find his own uniqueness and then own it. We don't need a another Adam Lambert but maybe a new james Durbin? Let's give the kid a break, he has a long road ahead of him.
Think the Adam comparisons will die down, unless Durbin sings more songs that Adam covered. Hope not. On Thursday, Adam singing Aftermath, not a song I see coming from James. Leave the fog at home Adam, want to see just you and Monte, and hopefully Tommy. Let this kid have his moment and bravado, it isn't hurting anyone. It's a long way to the finish of this season, and this young man will be tried and tested.
Okay everybody, adam lambert will be on Idol on March 10. Yes, i will tune in just to watch him!!!! As for the this other dude, he should stop talking adam and stop doing adam songs. He claims he is different and yet he copies everything...IMHO!
Noone will ever surpass adam's american idol sensation! yes, there are many,many talented singers, but not one can compare to adam! his amazing vocals and captivating performances were mindblowing. listening to his acoustic version cd, shows his perfectly beautiful voice. it keeps me wanting more and more!!
Good grief, first he uses Adam's name to gain fame, then he wants to say he isn't Adam Lambert! Well, he has that right, he isn't Adam, Adam was original right from the atart on idol, his own artiswt, he knew who he was and owned it! He is the only one who captured my heart on idol and the only one I follow! He is a beautiful soul, unique, comparable to no one! I craved Adam on the show and now I crave his music, his tours, his interviews, his everything! Adam didn't open doors, he broke them down and took them with him! You go Adam Lambert, can't wait for new music!
Adam didn t kept the foot in the door..we went STRAIGHT through and slammed the door because I dont think that anybody that soon will be good enough to be compared with him.A couple of highnotes makes no Lambert.
But good for you,Durbin,that you step back from any comparation and try to stay who you are.
Adam is drop-dead gorgeous and crazy sexy--part of the draw for us. For that reason alone, James will never come close. I'm also offended by his comment of putting his foot through the door versus in the door. It's the other way around.
Um, his so called signature tail is what Adam has worn for years along with his jewelry and leather and gloves, wow, you are really trying to make this guy out as being unique but the fact is he studied Adam, and tried to remake him, good luck with that! He needs to stick to heavy metal which is obviously his thing, and find himself as an artist! Adam knew who he was right from the start, I love that he is a teend setter but please don't insult us by saying anyone could ever be Adam, only one Adam and only one I want!!
Arrogant ******* . No way is he ever going to be as good with that attitude. No way he's going to get my vote.
