'American Idol': Fantasia Barrino serves up 'Collard Greens and Cornbread'
Season three winner Fantasia Barrino brought plenty of style with her when she returned to the "American Idol" stage to perform her song, "Collard Greens and Cornbread," on Thursday (March 31). Especially following a weak performance of Ashford & Simpson's "Solid as a Rock" from Naima Adedapo and Jacob Lusk, Fantasia's utter control of the mic and her voice stood in stark contrast. Take a lesson, kids.
And she brought that little bit of Fantasia weird that we grew to know and love seven years ago (has it been that long?!). The song started out with a melody that evoked The Supremes' "Heaven Must've Sent You from Above," (which has us wondering why Fantasia didn't perform during Motown week instead of the incongruous Sugarland) but quickly morphed into a song that was pure Fantasia.
Look for Barrino next on the big screen, playing gospel singer Mahalia Jackson.

I see that jim rat and dumb todd really don't know a thing about soul and probably never will.
Just so you know, Fantasia has a movie she's preparing for, that's the reason for the weight gain. She had to gain 40 pounds.
Go Tasia, I love you!
2 weeks ago we had a song called "Where You At" and now we have "Collard Greens and Cornbread"? Next week, what will it be? "Where be my Watermelon"?
I'm sure where's a country song out there somewhere that would be
satisfying for 'DAN' and he would probably understand it because he has no soulful vibe. Maybe the country title would be
'Dumb DAN Want To Kiss A Man'.
Some of the above comments are mean and racist..... I like the background music and harmony. From what oldie song is it from?? But the lyrics are funny and dumb.... LOL :)
The melody for this "new" song sure sounds just like Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell's Heaven Must Have Sent You from Above.....
Wow, I just read some of the comments by others and I find them utterly offensive. To make comments that judge an individual based on their looks, racial stereotypes, or what you believe to be their vernacular opens the door for hatred amongst individuals. Please take the time to evaluate yourself before making the decision to comment on someone else. I will not pass judgment on you because I do not know you story or your situation. In the same way you should also take that into consideration when commenting. As a nation of people (White, Black, Indian, Asian, etc.) it is time that we stand together and not be divided. Individuals of all sizes, genders, races and nationalities possess strengths that are often overlooked because of invalid and unjustified thoughts and perceptions. Please, think about the imprint that you are leaving on the generations that will follow you.
Best raw talent ever on Idol. Bored with these silly wannabee's. Take Fantasia fat n' sassy or pole skinny. Enough with pageant princesses...and sound alikes.
