'American Idol': Casey Abrams, still intense, tackles 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine'
Who ever thought Motown could sound as angry as Nirvana?
Casey Abrams, on the heels of last week's ill-received take on "Smells Like Teen Spirit," was looking for redemption on "American Idol's" Motown Night.
His chosen song: "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." And unlike Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Abrams seemed more incensed than sensitive during the song about overheard philandering.
Abrams delivered his now-trademark shout-singing with a few accusatory points into the audience, and though it was a bit underwhelming given all the expectations, he did deliver a solid performance.
The judges praised his unique style, with Randy Jackson (who's apparently been watching "Jersey Shore") perhaps the most flattering. "You are a true original," he says. "You take chances. You do you. You can only do you and that you is great."

Underwhelming to say the least.
He is the future to behold. See him now while you have a chance!
He is the next Taylor Hicks...See him at your local town theater in 5 years.
He WAS my favorite but the past two weeks have left something to be desired...sigh.
Cassey you are awsome!!!!!!!you should sing knarals barkley does that make me crazy .
Regarding Casey being voted off-this was so unbelievable and I can't help but think it was so staged. I can't believe they expect people to believe that KC would be in the bottom 3. He is so far superior to the others. It makes me angry. If he had been voted off I would have stopped watching the show. Great decision to SAVE him by the Judges. DONE!
CASEY - Winning! He is the greatest!
casey, you do have a nice voice but you do not have the appeal that is needed to further your career. enough with the dramatics i for one, did not appreciate t.
Honestly he is a man of such amazing talent... I love his style...! BUT the last two weeks have been truly disappointing beyond belief... Casey you have been blessed with crazy talent... You have set such a high talent level for your self and with your last two performances you have left your fands completely devistated....!!! Your are not living up to your true potential and talent we all know resides with in you............!!!!! Please restore our faith in you! You are so much greater than your last two performences...
We should just be grateful that FINALLY a real musician is getting some serious play. Thanks to this exposure, Casey will be able to write his own ticket and evidence suggests that he will pursue music honestly and on his terms even if here he's having to pander to the whims of the (yawn) "Idle American" public. Want him to be a "pop" star? Prepare to be disappointed. He's a real musician.
