TLC taps 'Flipping Out's' Ryan Brown for new home design series

The network that blazed the trail for design shows on TV with "Trading Spaces" is returning to its roots. After numerous shows driven by little people, families with multiple children and personalities like Sarah Palin, TLC is moving back into the design business with the currently titled "Mad About the House" and a former member of Bravo's "Flipping Out," Ryan Brown, is the face of the network's new series.
"I'm so excited about it, because really TLC is where it's at," Brown tells Zap2it exclusively. "They're the ones who put decorating shows on the map with 'Trading Spaces.' So, I'm so thrilled and honored to be the first one out the gate with this. I know the TLC viewers are really going to love the program. It's great."
The new series gives married couples $25,000 and three weeks to make over three rooms in their home and follows the couple as they try to see eye-to-eye on their design visions.
"'Mad About the House' brings home makeovers back to TLC," says TLC's general manager Amy Winter. "Through a big-concept format that gives us double the design, we address the completely relatable challenge of having couples try to agree on the look and style of their home. By exploring renovations through the lenses of relationships and taking a look at how well couples know each other's style, the series is a perfect complement to our schedule."
"They've got three weeks to do this," Brown adds. "Which is actually a good amount of time. So, you also get to see some great transformations take place over that amount of time, too. So, it's relationship, it's home design, it's construction. It's everything all mixed in one, which makes the show so fabulous."
Viewers last saw Brown during his dramatic exit from Bravo's "Flipping Out" after star Jeff Lewis accused his then-best friend and business partner of stealing clients from him. Although the two are no longer in contact, Brown says he's at peace with what went down and stands by what he said in that season's reunion episode.
"It was time for Jeff and I to go our separate ways," he says. "I wish him the best. He's doing well and I'm doing well. And things are great this way... I feel people who watched the show over the course of the years saw who I am and got a good understanding of me - a family man and a designer."

TLC is the one who put decorating shows on the map? Don't think so - think that was HGTV.
Then they dumped all of them and tore UP the map.
I love how TLC keeps pulling from other networks...when they aren't running shows about people who, in another time, would be called freaks.
TLC- The Living Carnival.
I doubt this will last very long. It just doesn't fit.
@Larry - your bullying is sad. to call someone a 'freak' because they look different than you is exactly what makes those TLC series interesting. they give people who don't usually have a voice an opportunity to share their lives, and to educate intolerant people like you. don't let your ignorance and a cheap joke really define you.
Sadly, TLC has turned into a joke. I'm glad if they are moving toward different programming (it couldn't get any worse) but will not be watching this show as i am on TEAM JEFF.
Well this is one show I won't be watching, I agree that TLC has turned into a joke and seems to be into stealing ideas. I originally respected Ryan Brown, but over the past few years my opinion of him changed: he's an a-hole. Part of the reason I feel this way is after reading lots of articles written after he was dumped from Flipping Out which commented on how he was stealing business from Jeff Lewis, and recent articles which commented on how Jeff Lewis' business skyrocketed after he got rid of Brown. I was surprised that what we saw on TV was actually the "reality".
Like the other commenter said: GO TEAM JEFF!
There won't be any "Team Ryan" in our house.
Just my opinion of course, I'm sure they'll be an audience for this show regardless.
TLC will gain viewers that appreciate the talents and maturity Ryan brings to this new show.
Looking forward to seeing a high quality show on TLC that is about design. Good idea to tap Ryan. His integrity, honesty and incredible talent will surely make it a success!! I hope it gets a good spot in the lineup!
I hope the casting is good. I am sure that Ryan will work his magic as he always does and I can't wait to see this. I think this is a cool concept!
What is wrong with you people. It hasn't even aired and you are bashing it. It's not about team anything.. The point of flipping out was part design part drama.. That's what you got.. The design was overshadowed by the crazy antics on one man and completely left many viewers hoping for more, from the style and taste to the cost and timeline there were plenty of viewers who would have loved to se what Ryan was doing on the show besides being blamed for everything.. TLC recognizes that huge opportunity and once we all see the show it will be apparent why Ryan was chosen for the design show and Jeff can keep his drama show.. Different people want different things, and hey those who choose drama can always make a little room for design when they're exhausted by the incessant griping and over the top personalities.. Reality TV can get a little obnoxious and its nice to see TLC is goving us a fresh show that brings back design and a man who really knows his stuff.
Excited for the show, wouldn't mind being casted. I'd love a home makeover by Ryan. My husband and I have such different styles.
