'The Killing': Get your first look at AMC's new drama

the-killing-400.jpgWhatever else you want to say about AMC's dramas, you can say this: They're really good at setting a mood. The cable channel's newest series, "The Killing," looks like it will fit right in with "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad" and "The Walking Dead" on that front.

In this case, the mood is one of dread.

The show, which premieres April 3, takes a long look at the murder of a teenage girl named Rosie Larsen (played by Katie Findlay) in Seattle. Each episode will cover a day in the investigation as intertwines the stories of the lead detective on the case (Mireille Enos, "Big Love"), Rosie's parents (Michelle Forbes, "True Blood," and Brent Sexton, "Life") and a Seattle politician (Billy Campbell, "The 4400") who has an interest in the case. ("The Killing" is based on a series from Denmark called "Forbrydelsen.")

We'll find out over the course of the spring whether the show as a whole lives up to the visuals that the two videos below provide. But that shot of a line of cops scouring a field kind of knocks us out. We're very curious to see how "The Killing" unfolds.

Take a look below at a trailer for the series and a making-of video with comments from cast members and creator Veena Sud ("Cold Case"). Does "The Killing" look like something you'll watch?

NO!

AMC has impressed me with their slate of dramas. If The Killing can even come close to the quality of Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Walking Dead then I will definitely be watching.

This show seems very promising and considering all of AMC’s shows have been visually stunning and extremely well written/acted, I would say this will probably not let anyone (who likes to watch good TV) down. Yeah, Rubicon got the axe, but it was a great show and it was too smart for the majority of TV viewers. But The Killing looks great, it reminds me of Damages in the sense that each season was a new trial, but it built the character development of each regular character. I look forward to this show and hope it does not disappoint.

The Killing from AMC is a remake of the danish series Forbrydelsen.

Internationally it has been renamed "The Killing" and they are raving about it in UK right now where BBC4 is airing it.

94% viewer approval which is not normal over there.

Do yourself a favor and watch the original with english subs which will clearly be so much better.

This is pretty exciting; from the trailers and AMC’s track record this could be one of the best new dramas on TV. I’m happy I upgraded to high definition recently so I can watch this show from the start with the added picture quality. Being an employee of DISH Network and someone who just made the jump, I can tell you now is a great time to upgrade too, with the prices of HD TV’s dropping all the time and DISH offering HD free for life.
