'Supernatural's' Lisa Braeden returns: Is she the one for Dean?
Now that Dean (Jensen Ackles) has his little brother back -- at least until the brain-wall comes crashing down rendering Sam (Jared Padalecki) completely useless -- he's got a whole new set of problems coming to him. On tonight's "Supernatural," titled "Mannequin 3: The Reckoning," Dean returns to the people he thought he'd lost forever when Ben calls to tell him that Lisa (Cindy Sampson) is in trouble.Dean ditches Sam to go investigate, coming back into Ben's and Lisa's lives for the first time since he scared the crap out of them during his brief stint as a vampire.
Lisa made it pretty clear the last time she and Dean spoke that they couldn't be together. "As long as [Sam's] in your life, you're never going to be happy," she told him. Still, Dean found himself wanting to call her again and again. Now that Sam is no longer a sociopathic shell of a man-beast, is there a chance for Dean and Lisa to have something? Or will tonight's episode bring closure to their relationship?
We at Zap2it love Lisa's character. She brings out the family man side of Dean and gives us a glimpse into who he might have been if the circumstances of his life were different.
Dean has spent most of his life taking care of Sam. He had to be a surrogate father when he was just a child, because their own dad was often M.I.A., and throughout the series we've seen him constantly prioritize Sam's well-being over his own. While Dean grieved for his brother who he thought was dead and trapped in the devil's cage, Lisa was there for Dean, even while he was "out of his head with grief," drinking too much, and unreliable. After all he's been through, he deserved to be on the receiving end of a little TLC.
That said, our favorite thing about Lisa is that she's not afraid to call Dean on his B.S. She wouldn't let him play the martyr and she wouldn't let his paranoia, however justified, impact her son's life too drastically. She knows when to demand answers and when to trust that Dean knows what he's doing, and she's not willing to live in fear of the things that go bump in the night.
But can Dean and Lisa really make it work? Sam remains Dean's priority, and as long as Dean is preoccupied by the flimsy wall in Sam's brain, he won't make much of a partner for Lisa. It's a shame though, because we think Dean has it in him to be a great father figure for Ben. After all, he was Sam's father figure for a long time... and look how great Sam turned out!
Okay, okay... bad example.
What do you think, Zap2it readers? Is Lisa the one for Dean? Will he ever be able to fulfill his dream of having his own family? Did you like him better with Jo before her untimely demise? Sound off below!

I love Dean and Lisa, and I hope those two crazy kids will be able to make it work somehow. I like Lisa, because she obviously cares about Dean and I am not 100% convinced Ben isn't his son. Like you said, Dean needs a little TLC, and he needs to build a family beyond Sam. I want Dean to have the family he's always wanted and a chance at real happiness at the end.
The kind of all consuming adoration the Winchesters have for one another leaves little room for anything else. As much as I like seeing them have something with others it wouldn't be the show it is and the tragic heroic story if they were Joe Normal, and living with a family, unfortunately it's part of what makes them so tragic that they can't have that. Sam lost Jess and I think Dean would only lose Lisa in the end. I enjoy them best at their most dysfunctional brotherly unit.
I L-O-V-E Lisa! I have since season 3! Dean and Lisa are nothing short of adorable together and the opening scene with Dean at the beginning of this season just kills my ovaries. Especially when he was making breakfast. omg.
Anyways, Lisa and Dean fit well together and if Dean were to settle down, I'll always want him with her. She could kick *** if needed, but she's also a good distraction for Dean
As much as I would wish for the brothers to each have a woman in his life permanently, this IS Supernatural, and Winchesters don't get a happy ever after. The only family for Sam and Dean are each other.
That said, I've always liked Lisa, and I like Dean when he's with her. That year he had with her and Ben was something I think he needed. He makes a great dad, and I want that for Dean. I still believe Ben is his son - biological son - no matter what the writers - or Lisa - says.
I've been convinced that Ben is really Dean's son since his first appearance in Season 3, and agree with him: he and Lisa are Dean's family. I like both Lisa and Jo (and Cassie for that matter) and think Dean could have managed a lasting relationship with any of them. But Dean can't give up hunting (or there's no more show), and he'll cut Ben and Lisa out of his life ... unless he figures out the truth about Ben.
This isn't the OC. The only family they'll ever have is each other and that's the way it's gotta be.
When I first read the premise behind the February 18th Supernatural episode, I thought that Dean was being called back to Ben and Lisa because Lisa was pregnant with Dean's baby.
Can't imagine where the Dean-Lisa-Ben thread is headed -- I think Dean is cursed and will never have his own family, sadly. This is Supernatural, after all, and not some and-they-lived happily-ever-after story, thank goodness!
I would like to see Dean go back to her if he doesn't die when they finally end the series. It would be nice for it to finally end on a high note of him going to live the life he deserves but never got. I'm not hoping that it will happen anytime soon but that's how I hope the writers will write their conclusion, with happy endings.
If you want happy endings, you might want to find another show. I hardly see Dean abandoning his brother so HE can live the life HE wants while Sam is stuck hunting for the rest of his life as a "happy ending" anyway.
I've read some of the comments and I'm leaning more towards those fans that are hoping that Lisa and Dean end up together as a family for Ben. Although I can't understand why he can't do both. Go hunting with Sam and on occasion go back to Lisa and Ben. Its a long distance relationship, but a lot of real families survive these kinds of distances in real life. That's WHY you're a FAMILY in the first place. Distance doesn't matter.
There've been episodes in the past that are Sam-heavy and those that are Dean-heavy and the actors also refer to them as just that, so I'm sure it can be done if the writers are up to the challenge and if we fans are vociferous enough to keep Lisa & Ben in Dean's life. He's a better man with them around. Heck, I can picture an episode where Sam and Castiel go off in search of one of the missing "nukes" from Heaven and Dean ends up going back to Lisa & Ben to have an off day.
